Nia Sharma slams TV producers, says 'we often work for 16 to 22 hours each day, we deserve better'
Ever since news of TV actor Manmeet Grewal's suicide broke because he was out of labor and didn't have money to pay rent, people are wondering about the economic condition of the show business. Speaking about an equivalent, actress Nia Sharma expressed her anger and said that folks face it frequently, but don’t mention it often.
In a heartfelt social media post, Nia wrote, "If I start taking names of these struggling due to pending dues, the list will continue. Paying a couple of lakhs may take time, but imagine an actor I do know has been struggling for months to urge Rs 70,000 payment. whenever he visits the producer’s office, he’s given another date." She further revealed that she knows a minimum of six more friends who face an identical issue. Not keen to reveal their names, Nia said a number of their cases are pending with Cine and Television Artistes’ Association (CINTAA).
"We often work for 16 to 22 hours each day, and that we deserve better. We aren’t salaried, neither can we do quite one show at a time. So where can we earn from? such a lot is being talked about other issues, but there’s not a word about those struggling within the TV industry," she said, adding that it's tougher to measure in an upscale city like Mumbai.
The 29-year-old also talked about the threats that a number of the actors and workers receive from production houses. "A lot of times, actors are told, ‘If you’re getting to mention us publicly or take us to CINTAA or a court, you’ll never get work or paid’. this is often the rationale why many close up or cry silently. it might take any of those people only a couple of seconds to require a drastic step," she said.
