Diet Prada calls out racism in Deepika's throwback photoshoot

Amidst protests to prevent racism (#BlackLivesMatter movement, which arose after George Floyd's demise), Diet Prada acknowledged another case of racism. The incident involved Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, who the style watchdog claimed had been used as a 'prop' during a recent photoshoot.

Calling the April 2019 Vogue photoshoot featuring Deepika Padukone, as 'American Vogue's most problematic moments', Diet Prada highlighted how the actress was used as a 'prop' and whites gained the center of attention. The photoshoot also involved 'Black Widow' actress Scarlett Johansson.

The fashion watchdog wrote, "In celebration of worldwide talent, the difficulty cham-pioned "the new center, which is everywhere and nowhere directly ." Despite Vogue's intentions, it had been glaringly obvious that during this new center, white women were still at its center. Actresses of color like Adesua Etomi and Deepika Padukone were pushed to the side, serving more as props for white ac-tresses like Scarlett Johansson and Vanessa Kirby."

Diet Prada also called out the magazine cover of April 2008 featuring basketball genius Lebron James, who happened to be the primary Black man on the duvet. Instantly, people noticed similarities between the duvet and 1917 American war propaganda poster 'Destroy This Mad Brute'.
