Akshay Oberoi’s a political thug

Last time we met Akshay Oberoi, he told us that he’s part of an ‘interesting concept-oriented film’. We have details on the movie he was referring to. Titled Mahatma, it has Akshay playing the lead along with Sanjay Mishra and Rasika Duggal.

Talking about the film, the Kaalakaandi actor says, “Imtiaz’s wife Preeti Ali is producing the project. Initially, it was a short film that went to Sundance Film Festival and then they decided to make it into a full-length feature.” Divulging more details, he says, “I play a political thug and Sanjayji plays a character who thinks he is Mahatma Gandhi’s reincarnation. Rasika essays the role of one of his disciples.” The movie is about how Sanjay’s character believes that like Gandhi, he has to fight corruption and other ills of the society. “I have a beautiful role and although I play a thug, it’s not exactly a villainous role,” Akshay adds. The film is expected to release later this year.
