Current News: India Rejects Trump Offers To Mediate On Kashmir Issue

India raised serious objection over Donald Trump's controversial claim that PM Narendra Modi asked him to mediate between India & Pakistan on the Kashmir dispute when they met during the G20 Summit. The US President even offered to mediate between the two nations to find a solution. He made these comments during the meeting with Pakistan PM Imran Khan on Monday.

Whereas, India remained firm on its a stand that there is no scope for third party mediation in the Kashmir issue. A protest was lodged by India with the US State Department over the statement issued by Trump.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar made it clear India hasn't placed any request for Trump's mediation on the Kashmir conflict.

Current News: 545 People Missing In last 45 Days In Telangana?

A report published by popular daily 'Eenadu' is now leaving people trembling with fear. The Telangana edition of the newspaper has printed that nearly 545 people are missing from Telangana state in May and June 2019 and most of them hail from Hyderabad and its surroundings. Not just kids, but middle-aged people, women and old persons are also missing.

If we go into the details of the reports, Eenadu mentioned, there are 545 missing cases registered in Telangana with a majority of them lodged in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. While these are officially lodged cases, Eenadu wonders what will be the count of those cases that are not even filed a complaint.

The report further stated that the missing person list includes 2-year-old kids to 80-year-old persons. Also, it is read that police are said to be investing each case only for two days and later closing the case with some cock and bull stories. Eenadu also included the line, "If the police had acted on time when parents of Kalpana lodged a complaint about their missing daughter on April 23, 2015, then the killings of Manisha and Sravani would have got averted as police would have caught serial killer Srinivasa Reddy".

Latest Report: Worlds most costly painting on the Saudi princes yacht

On Monday, London-based art dealer Kenny Schachter, writing for the website Artnews, offered answers: the painting now resides on the gargantuan yacht owned by powerful Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Many art experts are split over whether the painting is genuine, saying it was not painted by the Italian master personally but instead by his workshop. (HT Photo)

Since its sale for a record $450 million, the whereabouts of the “Salvator Mundi,” said to be painted by Leonardo da Vinci, has become one of the art world’s greatest mysteries.

On Monday, London-based art dealer Kenny Schachter, writing for the website Artnews, offered answers: the painting now resides on the gargantuan yacht owned by powerful Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Since its record-setting sale at Christie’s in 2017, the painting, in which Jesus Christ is depicted emerging from darkness blessing the world with one hand while holding a transparent globe in the other, has never been exhibited in public, triggering doubts about its ownership, whereabouts, and authenticity.

Many art experts are split over whether the painting is genuine, saying it was not painted by the Italian master personally but instead by his workshop.

The Wall Street Journal first reported that the painting was bought by Saudi prince Badr bin Abdullah, who acted in the name of the Saudi crown prince, known by his initials MBS.

Riyadh never confirmed or denied that report.

AFP could not corroborate Schachter’s column, and in a nod to the opaque nature of international art sales, he wrote, “In the murky Middle Eastern waters nothing is quite crystal clear.”

But citing several sources including two involved in the sale, Schachter claims the painting “was whisked away in the middle of the night on MBS’s plane and relocated to his yacht, the Serene.”

After saying the painting was originally found in shards and had to be reconstructed before its auction, he asks, “what harm could the occasional splash of seawater do?”

Schachter later wrote that the painting will remain onboard the massive yacht until it is relocated to the Al-Ula governorate, which Saudi Arabia is aiming to transform into a culture and tourism destination.

Breaking News: College student confirmed to be infected by Nipah virus: Kerala Health Minister

Nipah virus resurfaces in Kerala

Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja on Tuesday confirmed that at least one person is infected by Nipah virus in the state. The announcement came after final confirmation from the National Institute of Virology in Pune.

Health Minister K K Shailaja earlier said a list of 86 people who have interacted with the student has been prepared and they were under medical observation. The Kerala Health department has initiated precautionary measures to deal with the possible outbreak of Nipah virus.

Shailaja in Monday said in Thiruvananthapuram the 23-year-old college student, who has been admitted to a private hospital in Kochi, is suspected to have been infected with the Nipah virus but final confirmation is awaited from the National Institute of Virology in Pune. She said isolation wards have been set up at the Kalamassery Medical College Hospital in Kochi. The minister rushed to Kochi after briefing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan about the development.

Instilling confidence among the people, the minister said there was no need for any concern and the government, which successfully battled the Nipah outbreak in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts last year, was fully capable of dealing with the situation. The minister appealed to social media users not to create panic among the public.

What are the steps being taken?

Medical experts from Kozhikode have already reached Kochi and there are enough medicines and medical equipment to deal with the situation, she said. Health workers are being imparted training in case the test in Pune institute is positive and more cases are reported. She said a list of 86 people the student had come in contact with has been prepared. They were under observation and will report to the nearest medical facility if they develop influenza-like symptoms like fever, headache, myalgia (muscle pain), vomiting and sore throat, she said.No such complaints have been reported from them so far, the minister said.

How the student reported ill

Health authorities in Thrissur said the student, who was suffering from fever, had sought medical assistance at two private hospitals in Thrissur city when he had come to Kochi for a training program recently as part of his course. He is studying in Thodupuzha in Idukki district.

Thrissur district medical officer Dr. Reena said the student was in Thrissur only for four days and had been suffering from fever. There were 16 other students with him and six of them, who came in direct contact with him, were under observation. Besides, the people who had come in contact with the student were also under watch, the DMO said. Officials said the family and neighbors of the young man, who hails from Ernakulam district, and the college in Thodupuzha, where he is studying, were also under observation.

Past history in Kerala

On May 19, 2018, Nipah virus disease (NiV) outbreak was reported from Kozhikode in Malappuram district. As per state government figures, the Nipah virus had claimed 17 lives -- 14 in Kozhikode and three in neighboring Malappuram in May last year. According to the WHO, Nipah virus is a newly emerging disease that can be transmitted from its reservoir (natural wildlife host), the flying foxes (fruit bats), to both animals and humans. It takes its name from Sungai Nipah, a village in Malaysia where it was first identified.

What is Nipah virus:

Human infection can range from asymptomatic infection, acute respiratory infection (mild, severe), and fatal encephalitis. Infected people initially develop influenza-like symptoms of fever, headache, myalgia, vomiting and sore throat. This can be followed by dizziness, drowsiness, altered consciousness, and neurological signs that indicate acute encephalitis.

Some people can also experience atypical pneumonia and severe respiratory problems, including acute respiratory distress. Encephalitis and seizures occur in severe cases, progressing to come within 24 to 48 hours. Last year, the WHO had said, "In the outbreak in Kerala, we are seeing patients with encephalitis, myocarditis and acute respiratory infection.

Current News: Congress spokespersons to stay away from TV debates for a month

Taking to Twitter, Congress party requested all media channels and its editors to not place any Congress representatives on their shows.

Amid political uncertainty within the party following the severe drubbing it received in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress on Thursday barred its spokespersons from representing the party on news channel debates for a month.

Taking to Twitter, Congress party requested all media channels and its editors to not place any Congress representatives on their shows.

".@INCIndia has decided to not send spokespersons on television debates for a month. All media channels/editors are requested to not place Congress representatives on their shows," Surjewala tweeted while announcing the party's decision.

This came after Rahul Gandhi, who became the Congress president in 2017, offered to step down from his post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on May 25, taking moral responsibility for the party's dismal performance in the recently concluded 17th general elections.

However, his resignation offer was unanimously rejected by the CWC. So far, several top leaders have met Gandhi and urged him to continue to lead the party.

Sources said that despite senior members making serious attempts to convince the 48-year-old party chief to rethink his decision, he remains unfazed.

These leaders, sources said, maintained that Congress cannot afford to have someone new at the helm for rebuilding the organisation at this juncture and that the responsibility for the defeat is collective and not individual.

The Congress won 52 seats in the recent general elections, which is just eight more than 2014, in the outgoing Lok Sabha.

The NDA, on the other hand, registered a massive victory, winning 352 seats to retain power. The BJP alone won 303 seats - its highest tally ever.

Latest News: Congress crisis: Gehlot, Pilot, and Priyanka meet Rahul Gandhi ahead of another party meeting

Gehlot and Pilot called on Rahul Gandhi amid rumblings of discontent in Rajasthan and his insistence on quitting.

Amid reports that Congress president Rahul Gandhi is likely to chair a meet of top leaders in the evening, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot met at Mr. Gandhi's Delhi resident on Tuesday.

The leaders called on him amid rumblings of discontent in the state and his insistence on quitting. Pilot met Gandhi at his residence followed by Gehlot. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi was present during the discussions, party insiders said.

The party's chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala and general secretary KC Venugopal also met the party president at his Tughlaq Lane home. It is not immediately known what transpired at the meetings.

All senior leaders since Saturday have been trying to convince Rahul Gandhi to take back his resignation, but he seems to be adamant about going ahead with his decision to step down as party president.

According to a report in NDTV, Mr. Gandhi has called a meeting at his home at 4.30 pm today.

Faced with a colossal electoral defeat, the Congress has been riven by internal turmoil. As the party grapples with a severe existential crisis, its governments in both Karnataka and Rajasthan teeter on the brink with reports suggesting the BJP may try to wrest power in both states.

The Congress drew a blank in Rajasthan as the NDA won all 25 Lok Sabha seats. In Karnataka, where it formed a government with the JD(S) in May last year, the Congress managed to win only one Lok Sabha seat out of 28.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi canceled all his appointments for the day and Gehlot could not meet him.

After Rahul Gandhi gave Gehlot a tongue lashing for putting his son above the party at a CWC meeting on Saturday, two days after the Lok Sabha votes were counted, several Rajasthan ministers and MLAs are demanding that accountability be fixed and action taken for the Lok Sabha poll debacle.

According to some leaders who attended the Congress Working Committee meeting, Gandhi did a lot of "plain-speaking" in his surgical analysis of the role of several party leaders while himself offering to quit as the party president.

Ticking-off Gehlot for camping in Jodhpur for his son Vaibhav's election, Gandhi said the chief minister spent days campaigning extensively for his son in Jodhpur and neglected the rest of the state.

The CWC meeting was held in the backdrop of the Congress winning just 52 Lok Sabha seats and drawing a nought in 18 states and Union Territories. Gandhi himself lost from the family bastion of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, though he won from Wayanad in Kerala.

Several senior leaders of the party, mainly from the South where the Congress did reasonably well except in Karnataka, have asked Mr Gandhi to continue.  Senior party leader M Veerappa Moily on Tuesday termed the Lok Sabha election setback for the grand old party as a "passing phase" and backed the continuation of Rahul Gandhi as the Congress president.

Describing Gandhi as the "inspiration" for the party, Moily said it was not appropriate for him to quit as the Congress chief.

"Just because (Narendra) Modi has won...that is not a criterion to leave the presidentship. After all, ups and downs are common for the Congress party. We have seen them many a time," he told PTI.

Shashi Tharoor, who scored an electoral hat-trick by winning from the Thiruvananthapuram seat in the Lok Sabha polls, said Rahul Gandhi is the best person to pull the Congress out of its predicament following the setback.

The Congress has no time to sit and lick its wounds as it must immediately pick itself up for the upcoming state elections, Tharoor told PTI.

He also said he is ready to take on the job of the Congress' leader in the Lok Sabha if offered the post.

Latest Update: Nag-Rakul Chemistry Could Be A Problem For Manmadudu-2

From inception, Manmadudu-2 looked like a project that is doomed to fail. No offense to a young filmmaker like Rahul Ravindra but Nagarjuna and Rakul Preet chemistry is not setting screen on fire.

Even if it is a story of 40 years old guy falling for 25 something girl, the chemistry needs to be top notch for the love story to work.

Nag might pass off with his looks but Rakul acted with Naga Chaitanya just 2 years ago and people can't just forget the fact and accept this new couple.

VV Vinayak could just make a more issue-centric film for Chiranjeevi and Kajal pairing to not look too odd. But Manmadhudu-2 seems to be a fun family film and lead paint chemistry will be deemed important for it to work on the whole.

Comedy or characters could work in the film for us to overlook all of it but the promotional material is not giving strong positive vibes. Let's wait for the release of the film and hope it isn't as bad as images hint it could be.

Current News: Soldier who saw action in World War II passes away at 102

Second Lt Col Biddanda M Chengappa, 102, a soldier who saw action during WWII in Burma against the Japanese, passed away at his son's home in Ahmedabad. His son BC Mandappa told DNA that the centenarian was not ailing. "He was very lucid in the morning and went on with his routine of having breakfast, reading newspapers, and tracking post-Pulwama attack etc. He had his lunch and went for an afternoon siesta."

He further recounts how his father fondly recalled his time in Burma. "He was only 24 when he joined the Army in 1941, soon after being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and packed off to battlefront during World War II. The war was at India's doorsteps in Burma as the Japanese were advancing. Second Lt Chengappa was in the Indian brigade deployed to stop the Japanese." Along with a dozen newly commissioned officers, he was sent with a shipload of soldiers to Rangoon where they lacked both equipment and experience to take on the fierce enemy, recalls the family.

"While the British superiors on the Eastern Front were a bunch of inefficient lot preoccupied with own comforts, Second Lt Chengappa and the other Indians were sent to the enemy line where before his own eyes he watched two fellow Coorgs fall to the Japanese followed in quick succession by Indians," says Mandappa.

Within a week, only 20 survivors remained and were sent orders to retreat from the thick forests in northern Burma where they were stationed. "My father and 19 others somehow managed to hitch a ride on to a truck carrying kerosene supplies for some distance. As bullets flew around everybody prayed and hung on for dear life as even one small spark would have turned the truck into a flaming death trap," he recalls.

Later the group began walking through the forest for Kohima in Nagaland. The lone Burmese army officer guided them through the forest, where away from the enemy at night the tired men fell asleep under the trees. "But Second Lt Chengappa's troubles were far from over. He woke to a searing pain in his leg to find a snake had bitten him. All the men had was some first-aid and he thought he would breathe his last there," recounts Mandappa.

Meanwhile, back in Palangala, Coorg (in today's K'taka) his parents had been told their son was missing in action. "With no news for more than a month, they feared the worst."

Soon promoted as Major, he served in Gaza during late 1950s as part of UN Peacekeeping Force. Married to Sheila from the Codanda family, he has three sons and retired as a Colonel and settled in Coorg.

A passionate golfer, he played well into his late 90s and was happy to drive his car till a few years later, they recall.
