Cafe Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha, who went missing from Mangaluru on Monday, had a few days back written a note to his employees apologizing for failing to create ‘a right profitable business model’.


Siddhartha went missing after asking his driver to drop him off at the Netravathi bridge in Mangaluru as he wanted to take a walk. There was no sight of him an hour later and the driver alerted the family, and they, in turn, informed the authorities.

“I am very sorry to let down all the people who put their trust in me. I fought for a long time but today I gave up as I could not take any more pressure,” Siddhartha, the son-in-law of former Union Minister SM Krishna, wrote in the letter dated July 27

Siddhartha adds that he could not take any more pressure from one of the private equity partners ‘forcing him to buy back shares, a transaction he had partially completed six months ago by borrowing a large sum of money from a friend. “Tremendous pressure from other lenders lead to me succumbing to the situation,” he adds.



“There was a lot of harassment from the previous DG income tax in the form of attaching our shares on two separate occasions to block our Mindtree deal and then taking the position of our Coffee Day shares, although the revised returns have been filed by us. This was very unfair and has led to a serious liquidity crunch,” he explains.

“My intention was never to cheat or mislead anybody, I have failed as an entrepreneur. This is my sincere submission, I hope someday you will understand, forgive and pardon me.

A source from the industry told Hindustan Times, “Akshay has always been contributing for various causes. The best part about this donation is that Akshay has done it equally for animals stuck in the Kaziranga National Park.”

On the work front, Amitabh is currently shooting Shoojit Sircar’s Gulabo Sitabo with Ayushmann Khurrana in Lucknow. He has Brahmastra lined up for release next year where he will be seen alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy. The film is directed by Ayan Mukerji and is the first in his upcoming fantasy trilogy likely to be based around a mix of Indian mythology and science fiction.

The exit of World Bank from Amaravati project was a huge major setback for Andhra Pradesh and now the state received yet another jolt. China Investment Bank too pulled out of the project in a fresh development. This bank was supposed to invest $200 million.

The ruling YSRCP government is alleging that an insider-trading happened in the Amaravati project and so one by one bank are walking out. Earlier World Bank has suspected corruption in Amaravati project and so it proposed to send its experts team for an independent probe in the allegations. But the YSRCP government declined the World Bank's probe and so the latter dropped their investment plan.

China Investment bank was supposed to do a joint venture with the World Bank in Amaravati. A week after World Bank pulling out, China Investment Bank too gave a second thought and finally, they too quit the project.

TDP is worried that Amaravati's brand image is getting damaged because of reputed banks dropping their investment plan. YSRCP government has hit back at TDP that just because of the previous government's corruption, banks are not showing interest in putting their money.

The last rites of three-time Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit who passed away on Saturday (July 20) were held in the capital city's oldest cremation ground, Nigambodh Ghat on Sunday.

Sheila was cremated using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) method and this was her wish when she was alive," said her son and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit. The cost of Sheila's funeral was just Rs 500.

In the traditional way, the cost of a quintal of wood is about Rs 1000 while for the electric crematorium, it would cost around Rs 1200. But it causes a lot of pollution.

Having served as CM for 15 years, Sheila brought many policies to curb the pollution in the national capital. In 2007, Sheila introduced CNG buses in public transport and later set up CNG crematorium which is also affordable.

Even after her death, Sheila has set an example of how down to earth a politician should be. Hats off!.

Andhra Pradesh government which is set to bring new excise policy sometime in October is considering to run wine shops only till 6 PM. This is as part of their strategy to completely ban sales of liquor in the state which is also a promise made by AP CM YS Jagan during the election campaign.

However as things don't happen overnight, the YSRCP government wants to bring down the sales initially and then eventually abolish it. Currently, wine shops are running from 10 AM to 10 PM all over the state. Sales after 6 PM pick up a lot and so the new excise policy might target this prime time. The other aspect of this policy is to reduce the number of liquor brands. As of today, there are about 340 brands producing different flavors of liquor and a study suggested that many brands don't register proper sales.

But this strategy has many complications too. First is, the government will lose a chunk of revenue and they should also keep in mind that AP is going through severe financial stress.

The second is as the government is planning to run wine shops on its own instead of handing over to private persons. This could lead to the rise of the black market and it will put an additional burden on the excise department and officials. This policy is still under thoughtfulness and has a long way to go.

For now, Jagan has ordered the closure of all belt shops in the state and excise officials are busy following the CM's orders.

The disappointing semifinal exit made India fans devastated and sad. "Today, we were not good enough. That's the nature of the tournament, one bad day at this stage and you are out of this tournament,” Kohli added.

The Telangana government received a rude shock from the Telangana High Court. On the controversial decision to demolish the old Assembly and secretariat, nearly six petitions were filed including that of Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy's. This case came to hearing on Monday and the court has asked the Telangana government to file counters.

For this the advocate sought 15 days time and considering this the court said it would give time and until then the demolishing works should be stopped. Stunned by the court's ruling, the Telangana government has filed a counter-petition in just a few hours time.

While this is happening at one end, one more social activists have filed a PIL. The petitioner claimed that Erramanzil building is a heritage property and it can't be demolished as the history will get rubbed off. This petition has been postponed by two weeks.

BJP national spokesperson Ram Madhav faced a huge embarrassment at the 22nd TANA Conference held in Washington DC. Ram Madhav was one of the guests of the event and his turn came to address the gathering. The BJP leader who took the mic went on to praise PM Narendra Modi in his speech.

This irked the crowd and they boo-ed him. They also asked him to get down of the stage and walk off the venue. Despite noticing this, Ram Madhav continued his speech and as it was getting bigger, he cut off immediately. TANA President Satish Vemana was quick enough to react and asked the spectators to show some courtesy to the person and later felicitated him.

This episode did not end there. When Ram Madhav got down of the stage and was walking out of the venue, the crowd raised slogans against him, Modi and BJP.

For quite some time the atmosphere turned tense and after Ram Madhav walking off, things settled.

Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan will begin a three-day official visit to India on July 7.

The visit is aimed at providing the two sides with an opportunity to explore new areas of cooperation to further strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

Nahyan, who is also the Minister for International Cooperation, will be accompanied by a senior-level delegation. During the visit, he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

India and the UAE enjoy warm, close and multi-faceted relations underpinned by historic cultural, religious and economic linkages which stand elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The UAE is India's third-largest trade partner and fourth largest energy supplier. It is also the first country to participate in India's 'Strategic Petroleum Reserves' program.

As the chair of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), UAE invited India as the 'Guest of Honour' at the 46th Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of OIC in Abu Dhabi in March 2019.

PM Modi had visited the UAE in August 2015 during which the two countries decided to elevate their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister had also visited the UAE in February 2018.

Uncertainty stares at the Congress with Rahul Gandhi quitting as president of the party which is struggling to get back on its feet following two successive Lok Sabha election defeats.

With assembly elections to states like Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi approaching, many in the party feel the Congress has been thrust in a "blind spot" due to the leadership crisis.

Political commentators, however, say the step will augur well for the grand old party that needs to reinvent itself and present a clear vision before the public to again emerge as a credible alternative.

The Congress party's future would be chalked out at the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, the highest decision making the body of the party, which is likely to meet early next week.

The names of senior Congress leaders Sushilkumar Shinde, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ashok Gehlot and Motilal Vora were doing the rounds as possible candidates for the party president's post, but a decision would be made only after the meeting of the CWC.

"The Congress faces an existential crisis in the absence of clear leadership and such a situation does not bode well for the party which faces assembly elections in three states just a few months later," said a party leader.

Another veteran Congress leader said the party can remain united only under the Gandhi family umbrella and if anyone outside the family leads the party, it would increase dissensions.

1. Cong must come out of Gandhi family's shadow


Political commentator Sushila Ramaswamy, who teaches in Delhi University, said the Congress party should come out of the Gandhi family's shadow.

"To think that without the Gandhi family, the party cannot hold ground is unacceptable. Everyone has the right to go to the top and it seemed that the Congress was currently under monarchic rule. All this is bad and does not augur well for the oldest political party in the country," she said.

Director Sanjay Kumar of CSDS said it is not fair to think that the Congress will face a crisis if the party president is not from the Gandhi family.

2. Hope Cong accepts a new leader


"The party might get a new form with his resignation. He should continue to remain active in the party, which will help him emerge as a popular leader in the future.

"It is hoped that the Congress accepts the new leader who might give a new shape to the party's future," he said.

However, Ramaswamy said the entire Gandhi family should step aside and bring in new leadership "People get fed up of seeing the same faces in a democracy and alternatives need to be given just as in other evolved democracies in the world," she said.

She also lauded Rahul Gandhi for taking the initiative and allowing the party to reinvent itself.

3. Nothing lasts forever


"Nothing lasts forever, let it reinvent itself. It is not acceptable in a true democratic setup. The party will have to invent itself if it has to come up as an alternative.

"They should realize that coalitions have been rejected by the electorate in the country and a party should have a clear vision and leadership for it to emerge as a credible alternative to the ruling party. This will also help to keep the ruling party in check," Ramaswamy said.

She said the Congress should show that it is better than the ruling party to emerge as a credible alternative.

4. Even Sonia Gandhi should step down


"In fact, even Sonia Gandhi should step down as leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party and pave the space for somebody else to take over. The entire Gandhi family should step aside and bring in new leadership," she said.

The political analyst said the Congress party should have reinvented itself periodically, but it has not happened.

It is late, but should be done, she said and added Rahul Gandhi should be given credit by the party that he has "seen the writing on the wall and stepped aside".

While on Instagram, some photos are not appearing, while Facebook posts are missing out the text and images. The issues are reported from countries like USA, India, Africa and parts of Europe.

While interfaces are working correctly, the issue is coming up with images and a Facebook spokesperson already clarified that they have noticed the issues and working on them currently to resolve the issues at the earliest. Before all that could happen, the hashtags are getting trended heavily on Twitter.
