Cafe Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha, who went missing from Mangaluru on Monday, had a few days back written a note to his employees apologizing for failing to create ‘a right profitable business model’.


Siddhartha went missing after asking his driver to drop him off at the Netravathi bridge in Mangaluru as he wanted to take a walk. There was no sight of him an hour later and the driver alerted the family, and they, in turn, informed the authorities.

“I am very sorry to let down all the people who put their trust in me. I fought for a long time but today I gave up as I could not take any more pressure,” Siddhartha, the son-in-law of former Union Minister SM Krishna, wrote in the letter dated July 27

Siddhartha adds that he could not take any more pressure from one of the private equity partners ‘forcing him to buy back shares, a transaction he had partially completed six months ago by borrowing a large sum of money from a friend. “Tremendous pressure from other lenders lead to me succumbing to the situation,” he adds.



“There was a lot of harassment from the previous DG income tax in the form of attaching our shares on two separate occasions to block our Mindtree deal and then taking the position of our Coffee Day shares, although the revised returns have been filed by us. This was very unfair and has led to a serious liquidity crunch,” he explains.

“My intention was never to cheat or mislead anybody, I have failed as an entrepreneur. This is my sincere submission, I hope someday you will understand, forgive and pardon me.

The exit of World Bank from Amaravati project was a huge major setback for Andhra Pradesh and now the state received yet another jolt. China Investment Bank too pulled out of the project in a fresh development. This bank was supposed to invest $200 million.

The ruling YSRCP government is alleging that an insider-trading happened in the Amaravati project and so one by one bank are walking out. Earlier World Bank has suspected corruption in Amaravati project and so it proposed to send its experts team for an independent probe in the allegations. But the YSRCP government declined the World Bank's probe and so the latter dropped their investment plan.

China Investment bank was supposed to do a joint venture with the World Bank in Amaravati. A week after World Bank pulling out, China Investment Bank too gave a second thought and finally, they too quit the project.

TDP is worried that Amaravati's brand image is getting damaged because of reputed banks dropping their investment plan. YSRCP government has hit back at TDP that just because of the previous government's corruption, banks are not showing interest in putting their money.

The last rites of three-time Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit who passed away on Saturday (July 20) were held in the capital city's oldest cremation ground, Nigambodh Ghat on Sunday.

Sheila was cremated using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) method and this was her wish when she was alive," said her son and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit. The cost of Sheila's funeral was just Rs 500.

In the traditional way, the cost of a quintal of wood is about Rs 1000 while for the electric crematorium, it would cost around Rs 1200. But it causes a lot of pollution.

Having served as CM for 15 years, Sheila brought many policies to curb the pollution in the national capital. In 2007, Sheila introduced CNG buses in public transport and later set up CNG crematorium which is also affordable.

Even after her death, Sheila has set an example of how down to earth a politician should be. Hats off!.

Andhra Pradesh government which is set to bring new excise policy sometime in October is considering to run wine shops only till 6 PM. This is as part of their strategy to completely ban sales of liquor in the state which is also a promise made by AP CM YS Jagan during the election campaign.

However as things don't happen overnight, the YSRCP government wants to bring down the sales initially and then eventually abolish it. Currently, wine shops are running from 10 AM to 10 PM all over the state. Sales after 6 PM pick up a lot and so the new excise policy might target this prime time. The other aspect of this policy is to reduce the number of liquor brands. As of today, there are about 340 brands producing different flavors of liquor and a study suggested that many brands don't register proper sales.

But this strategy has many complications too. First is, the government will lose a chunk of revenue and they should also keep in mind that AP is going through severe financial stress.

The second is as the government is planning to run wine shops on its own instead of handing over to private persons. This could lead to the rise of the black market and it will put an additional burden on the excise department and officials. This policy is still under thoughtfulness and has a long way to go.

For now, Jagan has ordered the closure of all belt shops in the state and excise officials are busy following the CM's orders.

The Telangana government received a rude shock from the Telangana High Court. On the controversial decision to demolish the old Assembly and secretariat, nearly six petitions were filed including that of Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy's. This case came to hearing on Monday and the court has asked the Telangana government to file counters.

Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan will begin a three-day official visit to India on July 7.

The visit is aimed at providing the two sides with an opportunity to explore new areas of cooperation to further strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

Nahyan, who is also the Minister for International Cooperation, will be accompanied by a senior-level delegation. During the visit, he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

As the chair of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), UAE invited India as the 'Guest of Honour' at the 46th Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of OIC in Abu Dhabi in March 2019.

PM Modi had visited the UAE in August 2015 during which the two countries decided to elevate their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister had also visited the UAE in February 2018.
