Recently, hot mama on the move Shilpa Shetty Kundra redefined the sari, with her incendiary sexy take on it in Melbourne. Rocking designer Arpita Mehta’s deck-chair striped sari off the runway, the leggy lass was just being herself - fashion-forward, up-to-the-second chic and impossibly of-the-moment. At the India Couture Week, she showed us her goddess side in a theatrical Amit Aggarwal creation as she played his showstopper to the hilt. Just take a look at her last few pap images, she exudes a sunny yoga-esque optimism in mid-riff baring, slashed-at-the-thigh twinsets, not to mention her glam-leisure-spiked airport appearances. Be it the vibrant Nupur Kanoi kaftan she recently wore or the Taller Marmo separates or itsy-bitsy pieces from Shivan & Narresh - she’s unfailingly charted an enviable stylistic graph.

While her contemporaries are struggling to stay relevant - be it their career picks or sartorial choices — Shilpa’s never had a do-they-still-want-to-see-me moment? One could easily credit it to her lifelong dedication to yoga, fitness, healthy eating or an uncanny ability to infuse that ‘X’ factor into every outfit she dons.

Stylist Divyak D’Souza attributes it to her almost impossible-to-achieve fitness levels. “Everything looks good on her because she is so fit. It’s nice to see the sari is worn in a different way and in a correct way. She and her styling team have shown the ability to make an experimental sari look chic. She’s so confident and perhaps can pull off anything out of the ordinary. Because if you’re unsure about the outfit, it shows in the pictures. Also, she has sustained her career beyond being a working mom and wife. Hence, she’s still hot and significant,” says Divyak.

Combine killer abs, porcelain skin and a physique that exudes athleticism and superimpose these on her mega-wattage smile and you’ve conjured a vision of a beauty, who’s never dated, no matter what! Stylist Eshaa Amiin says, “Her USP is a fab body. She’s tall and whatever she wears, she manages to bring in that sexy element. When she walked for Amit Aggarwal, she looked like a goddess. Whenever she wears a sari, she usually keeps the pallu minimal, shows off her midriff and the neckline is usually low - which makes her ahead of the pack.”

THE ULTIMATE MUSE

A lot of actresses have often worn the sari in an unflattering way, thus killing its timeless appeal, but Shilpa’s grace and poise help her to take the drape to a new level. Stylist Isha Bhansali says, “She’s the ultimate muse. You need to be a ramp model to pull off such an outfit. It’s got nothing to do with the body because this silhouette works for all body types. Since she’s a yoga expert - she exudes a natural grace, poise and her body movement lend extra cred. She’s one of those few actresses, who can rock a pair of sari trousers so effortlessly.”
