KUKATPALLY: Will settlers help Suhasini to uphold Nandamuri Legacy?

Kukatpally is one of the most complex constituencies in the Telangana region. This has a large quantity of voters touching approximately 5 lakhs.  Because of its complex mix, it was won by Jayaprakash Narayana of Lok Satta Party in 2009 as they came in with great promises. But in 2014 the party didn't last and JP lost to Madhavaram Krishna Rao from TDP.

Krishna Rao was with TDP since long but after winning in 2014 he moved to TRS. The interesting development is the induction of Nandamuri Suhasini from TDP on behalf of Mahakootami to contest against Krishna Rao this time. This is a clear Chandrababu mark politics. He suddenly brought Suhasini, who is not known to the public at all. The fact that Suhasini now has a TDP brand and there is an ensuing sympathy wave for Harikrishna it won't be a surprise if she gives a tough fight to Krishna Rao.

On the other hand, Krishna Rao is a very senior and experienced leader and he has done a lot of good work even in remote hamlets and small colonies during his term. He has a decent equation with the corporators though one among them migrated to another party, it appears he has managed to keep both his boss KCR and the people of Kukatpally relatively happy. But his shifting from TDP to TRS has not gone well with many voters there. Krishna Rao hails from the Velama community and is one among the many who were invited by KCR on the basis of caste. Though he has the backing of KCR, Krishna Rao is facing a very tough opponent and his unnecessary comments on TDP have also rubbed the people on the wrong side.

As for Suhasini who is representing the TDP, she comes from the iconic Nandamuri Family which would impart a lot of appeal and positive effect on the voters. The chances are high that she would be having the support of Junior NTR & Nandamuri Balakrishna during the campaign activities. Since the majority here is Andhra Settlers, the favoritism would be high for her. Speaking about challenges, Suhasini is a new entrant & not very vocal. Also, she is not well versed with local problems. She is contesting against a local and senior Candidate so a strong strategy and aggressive canvassing is necessary because Krishna Rao has direct support from KCR.

Traditionally, it is the Reddy, Kamma and Kapu communities which emerge in politics but now we are seeing the Velama community coming forward, showing seriousness towards politics and becoming a force to reckon with. As part of that, KCR has also invited many Velama leaders from various parties and the Velama sentiment has prevailed.
