#2.O: Meet the real BIRDMAN of India

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has become the talking point post the release of '2.0'. His performance as 'BIRDMAN' is being highly hailed by audience and critics. An insight about his character reveals that Akshay's role is inspired by a real-life personality.

He is renowned Indian ornithologist and naturalist, Salim Ali. Popularly known as "Birdman of India," Salim Ali was among the first Indians to conduct systematic bird surveys across the country and also penned many journals on birds. Several species of birds, a couple of bird sanctuaries and institutions were named after Salim Ali.

There is a lot more than said about Salim Ali and his contribution towards ornithology is really commendable. In the year 1985, he wrote his autobiography 'The Fall of Sparrow' which was widely read back them. In 1987, Salim Ali breathed his last due to cancer.

If Salim Ali was alive, he would have expressed his anger over the extinction of birds with radiation. The writer of 2.0' Jayamohan had said that how would Salim Ali react to the adverse effects of the latest technology and accordingly the character of Pakshi Raja is penned. Initially, universal hero Kamal Haasan was approached for the role as it is quite emotional. But as Kamal declined, the role went Akshay's way.

Nevertheless saluting this amazing personality.
