Political News: Priyanka Vadras Acts Leave Varanasi Congress High And Dry

Is pretty Priyanka Vadra to going the way of her sibling, Rahul Gandhi? When she joined the Congress campaign, there were hopes that she would be different from Rahul, whose gaffes and goof-ups have put a big question mark on his ability to lead the Congress. After the glitter of her uncanny resemblance to her granny Indira Gandhi wore off, she was exposed to the hard realities. The contents of her speech came under scrutiny and people began asking tough questions. To refurbish her sagging image, Congress began spreading the story that she is set to take Narendra Modi in Varanasi. This gives enough grist to the news mills to say that this was going to be the mother of all battles. But, before the euphoria died down, came the dampener. Priyanka backed off from the contest. This was a huge disappointment for the Congress workers in Varanasi.

The Congress had then announced the name of old Congress warhorse Ajay Rai for Varanasi. The Congressmen of Varanasi expected that Priyanka will at least campaign for him in Varanasi. But, on Sunday, Sonia merely called him up over the phone and just congratulated him. She did not even talk of campaigning for him. The Congress workers of Varanasi are aghast that for all her tall claims, she would not even be campaigning in Varanasi. The Congress workers are cursing that the party could simply have given a walkover to Modi instead of all these statements.
