Pantone colour for the year may be living coral but there’s a similar hue that seems to have caught B-Town’s fancy. It’s orange. Kriti Sanon beat the Monday blues and brightened things up as she made a stylish appearance at the airport in a short dress with quirky sunglasses. In the past 10-odd days alone, the Luka Chuppi actress has donned the shade at least four times. It was a layered dress with a thick belt at the runway again, a body-hugging midi dress as she flew out to the capital for India Couture Week in a sporty T-shirt dress colour-blocked with pink and purple when she went for a dubbing session.

Kriti had company in Vidya Balan and Sonakshi Sinha who chose an outfit in the same tone on Monday. While the former was photographed in a long jacket as she was set to jet off, the latter opted for a twinset at a studio for a guest appearance on a dance reality show along with Madhuri Dixit. A few days ago, Yami Gautam was clicked in an orange number as she got into a car on a night on the town. Richa Chadha sported the classic combination of orange and pink for a night out, while Parineeti Chopra was also spotted in a skirt in this colour twice while promoting her next.

Once, it was a short leather one in a darker hue and the other time, a knee-length body-hugging bright one. The colour is not just for the ladies! Filmmaker Rohit Shetty wore an orange hoodie when he was snapped at the airport recently, Diljit Dosanjh sported a jacket in tangerine and Aayush Sharma kept things casual in a tee and denim.

Designer Nachiket Barve observes, “Fashion is very cyclical and a lot of colours go in and out of style as and when. For the past two seasons, we have seen so many pastel colours all the time. Also, given the gloomy weather outside, one psychologically tends to gravitate towards brighter and happier colours.” He adds that many people are trying to carry forward the trend into their lives. “The key is to pick out the right shade of the colour,” he states, adding, “For instance, on Indian skin tone, a little coral-ish orange or deep tangerine is a much nicer colour rather than sharp fluorescent hue.”

As for men favouring the tint, Nachiket advises that they need to ensure it doesn’t look like a prison costume. “The idea is to mix it up with black, grey, khaki or neutrals. It’s better to wear it as an accent instead of head-to-toe look,” he points out. The fabric is also an important aspect to consider, Nachiket tells us. “It looks better in matte compared to shiny cloth,” says he. Orange was popular on the New York Fashion Week street style earlier this year, and the trickle effect can be seen here as well.
