Back in the first week of June, when the film Peddi released, many people thought that the Ram Charan starrer would be a big hit in India.

Although it did very well at the Telugu box office, it also became a big topic of discussion for another reason. Much of the Hindi media, which often likes to see heroines playing patriotic roles in revealing outfits, criticized Janhvi's glamorous portrayal and the director Buchi Babu Sana's approach. That created a big controversy.

Guess what, when the whole of Tollywood got heavily criticized for giving only glamorous roles to female stars, the whole industry faced a lot of backlash from people calling themselves feminists.
Then, Tollywood responded by giving powerful female-led roles like Samantha in Maa Inti Bangaram, Bhagyashree Bhorse in Lenin and Sai Gouripriya Reddy in Chennai Love Story. That really surprised everyone.

In Telugu films, there are usually both glamorous roles and roles that are more character-driven, but they don't always come at the same time.

Sometimes glamorous roles are the main focus, and sometimes the more meaningful characters take center stage. Most of the successful heroines, like Samantha in the past or Bhagyashree now are able to balance both. Anyway, three heroines are likely helping Tollywood regain its reputation after the Janhvi controversy.
