Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha has revealed the story of how she landed with her debut, Dabangg, and the news was personally delivered by Salman Khan. She was speaking on The Kapil Sharma Show where she was promoting her upcoming film, Khandaani Shafakhana.


A Mumbai Mirror report claimed Sonakshi once worked as an audience manager at a fashion show, and Salman was in the audience. “He strolled up to me and suggested I lose weight as he was looking forward to casting me in his movie,” Sonakshi was quoted as saying. She added that the star also asked her for a treat for the “good news”. “I had only Rs 3000 in my wallet that day and I was too embarrassed to take him out,” she added.

Sonakshi made her Bollywood debut with Salman’s Dabangg, and is currently working on the third installment of the hit franchise with him. The actor is currently awaiting the release of Khandaani Shafakhana that aims at normalizing discussion about sex in our society. The film marks the acting debut of rapper Badshah and also stars Varun Sharma and Annu Kapoor. Producer Arbaaz Khan has revealed that his brother Salman Khan was not the first choice for Dabangg in 2010 as director Abhinav Kashyap wanted either Irrfan Khan or Randeep Hooda to play Chulbul Pandey.

Abhinav Kashyap, who wrote and directed the first Dabangg film in 2010, wanted to cast Randeep Hooda or Irrfan as the Robin Hood cop, Arbaaz Khan has revealed.

Producer Arbaaz Khan has revealed that his brother Salman was not the first choice for Dabangg back in 2010 as director Abhinav Kashyap wanted to cast either Irrfan or Randeep. The shooting for Dabangg 3 is currently on in Phaltan where they have a 10-day-long schedule.

Talking to Mumbai Mirror in the interview, Arbaaz said, “When Abhinav narrated the script to me, I asked him why he wasn’t offering me the role of the Robin Hood cop. But more than Chulbul, he saw me as Makkhi, which was an extension of my role in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. He was looking to cast Randeep Hooda or Irrfan Khan as the lead then but neither of them had been finalized. I offered to produce the film for him and asked him what if we got Salman on board as Pandey ji. He was instantly excited and things quickly fell in place.”

Directed by Prabhudeva, Dabangg 3 is a prequel, telling the story of Salman’s character Chulbul Pandey — how he transformed from a local goon to a Robin Hood-style cop. Dabangg 3 will see Kannada star Sudeep as the antagonist. Arbaaz directed Dabangg 2 and cast Prakash Raj as the villain while Sonu Sood essayed the role of the villain in the original.

Arbaaz also revealed that Mahesh Manjrekar’s daughter Saiee, who makes her acting debut with Dabangg 3 where she will romance Salman during his college days, was the superstar’s suggestion. “Salman has known Saiee for a while. He was sure she fits the bill perfectly as an innocent young girl and after seeing her perform, we know she’s exactly what we wanted for Dabangg 3,” he said.

He also said around 40% of the shooting remains. “We are only 60% through. Shooting will wrap up by September end leaving us with three months for post-production.” Dabangg 3 also stars Sonakshi, Saiee, Arbaaz, Sudeep, Mahie Gill, among others. It is slated to hit theatres on Christmas 2019.

While the attack did not take place on the sets of the film, Salman sent across his team to take care of him. Actor Sonakshi Sinha, who will reprise her role as Rajjo in the series, too shared pictures from the sets. In June this year, she shared a picture from the film’s set. In the still, she can be seen dressed up in a black outfit with a messy, loose plait, a red bindi on her forehead and sindoor in her hair. Sonakshi, who made her Bollywood debut with the 2010’s Dabangg, plays Chulbul Pandey’s wife in the film.

Dabangg 3 is being helmed by Prabhudheva. The film marks the second collaboration of Salman and the director. The two have previously worked together in Wanted. As per media reports, Arbaaz will once again be seen playing Makkhi in the film. The movie is being produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films and Arbaaz Khan Production. It is scheduled to release on December 20, this year.
