UPSC Civil Services Exam 2017: Meet Anu Kumari, mom of a toddler, who bagged the second spot in the second attempt


Anu Kumari, the mother of a four-year-old, has secured the second position in the just announced UPSC Civil Exam 2017 results.

Kumari, who used to work with a private company, left her job two years ago to pursue her dreams. (IAS TOPPER)

‘My job was good, but there was no internal satisfaction. It all became so mechanical that at one point I could not take it anymore,’ she was quoted as saying by The Hindustan Times.

She has graduated with BSc (Hons) in Physics from the Delhi University and has done an MBA (Finance and Marketing) from IMT, Nagpur

In her first attempt in 2016, Kumari missed the cutoff by just 1 mark. 

Talking to news agency ANI, Kumari said that ‘this is like a dream come true. This feeling has still not sunk in.’

Elaborating about her preparations, Kumari said that she used to study for 10-12 hours a day. 

About her future plans, Kumari said that ‘my first preference will be IAS as I want to stay in my country & serve the people here.’

‘I come from Haryana, where we see regularly the regressive nature of society and increasing crimes against women. Since I have got this amazing opportunity now, I would like to make most of it,’ an HT story quoted her saying. 

UPSC on Friday published the final results for Civil Services Exam 2017. The result has been published on its official website upsc.gov.in Anudeep Durishetty has got the top spot, Anu Kumari has emerged second and Sachin Gupta has got the third rank, reports ANI. 

Topper Anudeep Durishetty is from Hyderabad. He is currently Assistant Commissioner in the Indian Revenue Service.  Anudeep, an OBC candidate, qualified the examination with Anthropology as his optional subject.
