After Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, Jhulan Goswami becomes the third cricketer to have a biopic on her life.
Bollywood is never tired of making films on real-life heroes, and why should the film industry shy away when we have such inspiring stories around us? Even as films on the lives of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and hockey player Sandeep Singh are all set to release in the next few months, Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to a biopic on cricketer Jhulan Goswami.
India’s pace spearhead and former Indian cricket team captain, Jhulan Goswami is currently the leading wicket-taker in the women’s ODI format. She becomes the first woman cricketer, second woman sportsperson, and third cricketer to have a biopic on her.
Jhulan, 35, created yet another record in February this year when she took 200 wickets during the second ODI of the three-match series with South Africa at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley and became the first woman cricketer to do so in one-day internationals (ODI).
Announcing the news, Sony Pictures India tweeted, “Hands down one of the most inspiring life stories ever told - legendary woman ODI cricketer @JhulanG10 ‘s life is set to come alive on the big screen! We can’t wait to bring Jhulan Biopic to you with our partners at Dunamis Entertainment - @rajneesh_chopra and @GBspeak.”
