Varun Dhawan reunites with 'Badlapur' team Sriram Raghavan, Dinesh Vijan for the biopic on Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal

Sriram Raghavan gave a pathbreaking role to Varun Dhawan with Badlapur and there was no turning back for the actor. Yes, Varun's forthcoming film is a biopic on Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who was a part of the Indian army during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. At the age of 21, he fought for our country and sacrificed his life. The film also marks the reunion of the whole Badlapur team including producer Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films.

Talking about the film, Varun told Mumbai Mirror, "When I heard Arun Khetarpal’s story I was awed that this could have actually happened! I understood then why Dinoo (Dinesh Vijan) and Sriram are so passionate about it. When I met Arun’s brother Mukesh, I was moved. I too have a brother and I can’t understand what he must have gone through,” he says, reiterating that this is a story that needs to be told. “And it’s our responsibility to tell it correctly. This is the most important film in my career and I’m excited to start work with Sriram again. I hope all Indians will feel as proud when they see our story unfold on screen."

While Sriram added, "The courage of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal during the 1971 Battle of Basantar is well known. I was a kid during the ’71 war but I remember pasting black paper on windows during blackouts. When Dinoo approached me to make a film on the subject, I found it daunting initially. But movies set in wartime have always moved me and this made me reconsider my decision. This is a solid story told over two generations of soldiers and we hope we can do justice to it."

Shraddha Kapoor who is gearing up to start shooting for 'Baaghi 3' with Tiger Shroff recently opened up on being replaced by Parineeti Chopra in Saina Nehwal biopic and replacing Katrina Kaif in 'Street Dancer 3D'.

Apart from Anil Kapoor and Rakeysh Mehra, a lot of actors and actresses have independently reached out to me for the rights. I’ve even been approached for documentaries. With the number of requests coming my way, lagta hai meri story bahut hit hogi.”

Expressing her desire to see either Priyanka Chopra or Kangana Ranaut play her role, Dutee Chand added, “Finalising an actress is the job of the producer and director. It usually happens only after they are ready with a story. I’ve seen films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Dangal and Mary Kom. I think Priyanka Chopra did a very good job in Mary Kom. While I don’t know who will eventually be selected, I think Kangana Ranaut can portray me perfectly on screen, I like her as an actress.”

Kangana feels humbled that the sprinter finds her worthy. “That’s very kind of Duteeji. Alia studied her story and gave her nod to the project. Although the producers haven’t locked her dates yet, given that her diary is packed with other film commitments, they expect to begin the project in 2020,” adds our source.

On the work front, Sanya Malhotra will be starring alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Ritesh Batra’s Photograph which will be screened at Sundance Film Festival 2019. She has been roped to feature alongside Aditya Roy Kapur in Anurag Basu’s next.

The Rakesh Sharma biopic was first offered to Aamir Khan, who opted out of it later. Then, Shah Rukh Khan was roped in to play the cosmonaut in the space drama whose title was changed from Salute to Saare Jahaan Se Achha. However, After Hrs recently informed you that the Zero actor, too, has stepped down from the project. While the official confirmation on either of the news was never made, the makers of the film - Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur — have zeroed in on two actors from Gen Y.

A source says, “After SRK’s exit, Ronnie and Siddharth decided to cast a younger face to play Rakesh’s role. The story revolves around his mission to be the first Indian in space and he was 35 when he achieved this feat. So, they decided to sign one of the actors from Gen-Y.”

Although several names were doing the rounds, a source from the production team informed us that the top contenders are Vicky Kaushal and Kartik Aaryan. While the former is in great form at the box office after Uri: The Surgical Strike, the latter has Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety under his belt. “Mahesh Mathai, who is directing the biopic, has met Kartik, but they haven’t had a narration yet. Meanwhile, Vicky was spotted at Siddharth’s office a few days ago,” adds the source.

Shah Rukh Khan will play Rakesh Sharma in his biopic

He might have not announced it officially yet but Shah Rukh Khan has signed up for Rakesh Sharma biopic, and he did so after Aamir Khan passed the project over to him. After Zero release, it appears that Shah Rukh Khan is in no mood to rest and would rather begin shooting for his next film three months prior to the scheduled date.

The biopic which was set to go on floors in May 2019, will now take action in February itself and the reason for it is quite valid.

The producers – Khan (Red Chillies Entertainment) and Siddharth Roy Kapur (Roy Kapur Films) do not wish to go over budget and considering that shooting in February will give them ample time to complete the major outdoor shoot portions, the two decided to go ahead with the same.

A source confirmed the same to Mid-Day saying, “The project is expensive. In a bid to ensure that the film doesn’t exceed the budget, Kapur and Khan find it imperative to start shooting by February. Doing so will help them wrap up the main schedule by summer. Given that certain crucial scenes must be filmed outdoors, the duo felt shooting in the bulky costumes would be impossible during those months.”

The source added that the unit plans to wrap up the next schedule, also outdoors, by June. “Construction work for the creation of a huge set has already commenced at Film City,” added the source.

Priyanka Chopra was announced to be part of the project but she reportedly walked out of it and the actress who will feature in the movie is still kept under wraps.
