Om Puri's last film 'Lashtam Pashtam' inspired by the director’s real-life experiences

Om Puri's last film 'Lashtam Pashtam

Debutant director Manav Bhalla, who is also producing Lashtam Pashtam, along with Gheorghe Seran, has been inspired by real incidents in his own life to tell this story of friendship and brotherhood beyond borders. Amongst the last movies of the late actor Om Puri, it also features Tisca Chopra, Dolly Ahluwalia, Ishita Duta, Feryna Wazheir, Vaibhav Roy and Samar Vermani.

The young filmmaker has grown up with these stories which he has used to create characters based on people close to him. Says a crew member, “An NRI based in Dubai, Manav has seen the pain of separation and political conflict and its impact on the lives of people. A prominent character in the film, Fahd, is based on his good friend who is a Pakistani and lives in Dubai now. Manav’s bonding with Fahd and his relationship with others around him is reflected in the storyline.”

On his part, the director-producer says, “My business partner Gheorghe is Romanian and we’ve been friends for many years. He grew up watching Bollywood fare and found an instant connection when I shared this story with him. The journey that we started from there and the challenges we faced while making Lashtam Pashtam are also well reflected in the film as two friends fight against all odds to achieve their goal.”

Incidentally, the writers of the movie were also inspired by the famous pair of tennis stars, India’s Rohan Boppana and Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi.

Lashtam Pashtam, produced by Manav Bhalla and Gheorghe Seran, releases August 10.
