Assembly Elections 2018: the Political Battle to Test the Mettle of Young Turks in Rajasthan Protests

Protests  While youngsters were given a chance, several old war horses were left out of the lists leading to their supporters staging protests outside party offices

The Rajasthan Assembly polls are witnessing the rise of the young within the Congress and BJP as both the parties have given tickets to the kin of tall party leaders.

This time the Congress has given a ticket to Divya Maderna from Osian who is the daughter of former minister Mahipal Maderna. It has also given a ticket to Mahendra Bishnoi from Luni. Mahendra is the son of former MLA Malkhan Bishnoi who along with Mahipal is facing charges in the ANM Bhanwari Devi abduction and murder case.

They both are making a debut in the Assembly elections this time.

In the last elections in 2013, the Congress had given the ticket to Leela Maderna who is the wife of Mahipal Maderna while Amri Devi mother of Malkhan Bishnoi was the Congress candidate.

Apart from the two, Congress has given a ticket to Prashant Sharma from the Amber constituency. He is the son of former Congress MLA Sehdev Sharma.

This trio though brings in a breath of fresh air within the Congress. They are the next generation of leaders from already well-established families in the party.

Senior Congress leader Ram Narayan Choudhary's daughter Reeta Choudhary who had contested the last election as a rebel against party's official candidate Dr. Chandrabhan from Mandawa has been given a party ticket this time. In the fight between Reeta and Dr. Chandrabhan, Independent candidate Narendra Kumar had won the polls in 2013.

It is not just the Congress that has put faith on sons and daughters of senior leaders in the state. BJP too is not behind in giving a ticket to them. The party has remembered the contribution of senior leaders and has given a ticket to Ramswarup Lamba son of late Sanwarlal Jat from Nasirabad despite Lamba losing the by-election held in Ajmer.

BJP has also fielded Shailesh Singh son of late Digamber Singh from the Deeg Kumher seat.
