PM Modi turned surgical strike into political asset as he was losing UP elections: Rahul Gandhi

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claimed that the PM shaped surgical strike into a political asset.

The Congress chief made the claim while addressing a rally in Rajasthan's Udaipur.

Taking a dig at Modi over foreign relations and farmers issues, Gandhi said that Modi is convinced he knows better than Army, Foreign Minister and Agriculture Minister about what needs to be done. "Modi has a sense that all knowledge comes from his brain," Gandhi said.

Claiming that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh did surgical strikes three times during his tenure, Gandhi said, "When Army went to Singh and said that they need to retaliate to Pakistan for what they have done, they also said they wanted it to be secret, for their own purposes. However, Narendra Modi actually reached into Army's domain and shaped their surgical strike. He turned their surgical strike into a political asset when it actually was a military decision,"

In a startling claim, Gandhi also said that Modi turned a military asset into a political asset as he was fighting an election in UP and he was losing it.

On September 29, 2016, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes on seven terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) as a response to an attack on its base in Uri earlier that month.

The Army had said its special forces inflicted "significant casualties" on terrorists waiting there to cross into Indian territory.

During his address, the Congress chief also said that the Non Performing Assets (NPA)  of banks which was Rs 2 lakh crore during UPA govt, rose to Rs 12 lakh crore during Modi government. "India will surpass China if we have the right government for the next 15-20 years.

Later, Gandhi will also address youths in Bhilwara, Chittorgarh and Hanumangarh.

Rajasthan will vote for 199 seats of the 200-member assembly on December 7 and counting will take place on December 11.
