Political News: Modis Rythu Bandhu Rs 4000 Per Acre

The fall of BJP in the 5 states Assembly elections have hit Narendra Modi and Amit Shah duo so hard. In order to tackle growing opposition within BJP and outside BJP, Modi and Shah are coming up with a strategy to get close to agrarian community which accounts for large population in the nation.

As part of the move, Modi is all set to follow KCR's Rythu Bandhu scheme, Farmers' Investment Support Scheme (FISS). Buzz is that a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) would be announced very soon by Modi government. Rs 4000 per acre would be transferred directly to farmers ala KCR's Rythu Bandhu scheme in Telangana. The cash transfer would be made in two seasons. In addition to the Direct Benefit Transfer, zero percent Crop loan up to Rs 1 Lakh per farmer in two-phases could be availed.

It is learnt that this would cost a whopping Rs 2 Lakh Crore to the Centre for money transfer and another Rs 28,000 to Rs 30,000 Crore for interests towards zero percent-crop loans. Overall, this would cost Rs 2.3 Lakh Crore to public exchequer. Ahead of 2019 general elections, Modi's move to win the hearts of farmers to be ascertained and how the nation receives it.

Meanwhile, the Centre has called quickfire meetings at the PMO (Prime Minister's Office) as well as in NITI Aayog to finalise the announcement which is likely to be made within this week. In this process, officials of nodal ministries -agriculture, revenues, expenditure, chemical and fertilisers, food have been asked to meet informally for better coordination and thus to avoid any unwanted confusion, differences. On the other hand, Prime Minister Modi is going to meet farmer leaders to discuss the proposals.
