Ap Elections Update: No data theft, info is in public domain: AP Chief Election Officer

Finally responding to the IT Grids case, AP Chief election officer Gopala Krishna Dwivedi ruled out the theft of data of 3.5 crore voters as alleged by YSR Congress Party and said that the information of these voters can be accessed by anyone and is available in public domain.

Speaking to media persons, Dwivedi said that the Election Commission's data doesn't include Aadhaar number linked with their bank account. The Telangana Police states that the data in possession of IT Grids has other details. Additionally, he raised a question about why Telangana Police is responding to complaints filed to the Election Commission. "We don't have anything to do with the politics surrounding this data theft allegation," he explained.

"There are 45,000 booth-level officers in the state. There can be a few bad apples here and there. Earlier, there used to be one lakh applications a day for deletion of voters. However, the number has come down drastically these days," he added, expressing concern on the misuse of form-7 which are also asking for deletion of legitimate voters.

On the other hand, netizens are taking to Twitter to voice their concerns about deletion of their names. "I'm a registered voter and I have received a call from YSR Congress Party to vote for them. These form-7 applications were filed on my name when I actually didn't do it," he stated.

Another netizen explained his harrowing experience: "Two people came to my home for verification, asking if I filed a form-7 request to delete my name from vthe oters list. I was shocked because I didn't file it and someone else is doing it, illegally," he added, revealing that YSR Congress leaders locally, have been doing it constituency-wise to delete even legitimate voters from the lists!
