What is the Manmohan Singh, one of the most silent prime ministers of the country the next move? If the Congress sources are to be believed, the high command wants him to contest from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat. But, Manmohan Singh, whose health is frail and who has endured heart surgery, expressed his unwillingness to contest the elections. He reportedly told the high command that he may not be able to endure the hustle and bustle of politics and the heat and dust of campaigning.
However, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh as reportedly met the former prime minister and told him that he would personally take care of the campaigning. So, one can expect Manmohan Singh to fight an election from Amritsar in Punjab.
But, interestingly, Manmohan Singh had fought direct elections only once in the past. He had once contested from New Delhi and lost. Since then, he had always taken to the indirect route and contested for Rajya Sabha only. This will be the only second time he would contest for the Lok Sabha.
