Movie Gossip: Can Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan recreate Govinda, Karisma magic?

'No one can equal them. nobody should even try,' says David Dhawan.

Although David Dhawan has made 44 films, none has made him as nervous as his underproduction film Coolie No 1, a remake of David's 1995 hit featuring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor.

Varun Dhawan, David's son, and Sara Ali Khan feature within the two roles that Chi Chi and Lolo made memorable.

Comparing the 2 sets of actors is an exercise in futility for David.

"Govinda and Karisma created magic on screen. nobody can equal them. nobody should even try," he says. "Varun and Sara are during a completely different zone, freed of the burden of trying to be like their predecessors."

David feels comparisons are unfair. "Agreed, I'm remaking my very own film. So there'll be comparisons. But the 2 pairs belong to different eras. It's like comparing a Bentley with a Porche. they're not comparable."

There was some talk about Govinda and Karisma making an appearance within the new Coolie No 1. But that did not happen.
