Vamshi Paidipally worked with all the Top Stars of Telugu Cinema (Prabhas, NTR, Charan, Bunny) except Mahesh Babu until recently. With 'Maharshi', He not only completes a full circle but also got the opportunity to direct the landmark film of the Superstar. Posters, Promos, Songs & Pre-Release Promotions generated good buzz around the biggie. Will 'Maharshi' become a memorable film in the career of Mahesh Babu at the Box Office?

Synopsis:

Rishi (Mahesh Babu) who belongs to a middle-class family doesn't want to be like his Father who had seen many failures and faced several insults. He becomes the CEO of a biggest Corporate Company in the World with his hard work and determination to reach greater heights. At one point, Rishi realizes success doesn't mean money or stature and there is a sacrifice of his Friends (Allari Naresh, Pooja Hegde) behind his growth. What has he done for his close buddy? What is the true meaning of success? How did he emerge as a Maharshi? Do watch Maharshi in theatres nearby to find out answers..!

Performances:

Mahesh Babu has done a role with three shades. He, however, managed to show significant variations only in the role of a college student. That doesn't mean his performance in the other two shades wasn't good enough but the freshness is missing. Be it his looks or histrionics in certain scenes, They remind us of films such as 'Srimanthudu' & 'Bharat Ane Nenu', and offers a monotonous feeling.

Allari Naresh leaves a lasting impact on the role of Ravi. Just alike 'Gaali Seenu' in 'Gamyam', Ravi in Maharshi will be remembered for a very long time. However, Allari Naresh gets sidelined after a point and he wasn't given proper ending.

Initially, Pooja Hegde's role gives the impression that it could be different from regular Heroine character. As the film progress, Viewers get disconnected with her character due to the inconsistency in the character graph.

Jagapathi Babu appears a tad too routine as Antagonist. Prakash Raj and Jayasudha have done complete justice to their roles. Rao Ramesh, Sai Kumar, and Rajeev Kanakala were alright.

Technicalities:

Undoubtedly, 'Idhe Katha Idhe Katha' is the best song in the album of 'Maharshi'. 'Padara Padara' is another track which gets positive feedback. None of the remaining Songs left a strong impact. Background Score isn't bad but at times viewers get reminded of other films. Cinematography by KV Mohanan is marvelous. Production Values are grand and richness is evident in every frame. Although the subject of 'Maharshi' lacked freshness, It has got the soul but Vamshi Paidipally hasn't succeeded fully in presenting it on the screen. Preachy Narration makes the viewers feel restless after sometime. We get the feeling of attending a personality development class while listening to the dialogues. You realize Vamshi Paidipally's command on the craft while looking at each sequence separately but on a whole, he failed to narrate the subject in a heart-touching manner.

Analysis:

'Maharshi' is the 25th Movie of Mahesh Babu. It's the story of Rishi who was born in a middle-class family becoming the CEO of a corporate company and reaches a village in AP to fight on farmers issues in support of his Friend. The role of Hero was designed as a role model to match up to the landmark film status. There are entertainment, sentiment and fan moments in 'Maharshi'. Getting too much preachy, long duration, story/screenplay/scenes resembling other films worked against this flick.

Promos of 'Maharshi' gave a feeling that they were inspired by other films including those starring Mahesh Babu. You get the same impression while watching the movie as well. '3 Idiots' Inspiration can be noticed during the college-backdrop scenes. Speech in the presence of media on Farmers issues reminds us of 'Khaidi No.150'. Be it Mahesh's looks or expressions & DSP's songs or background score, You could spot the similarities with previously released films. Vamshi Paidipally ensured there is some attraction in every scene to prevent viewers from getting frustrated. Although freshness is missing, He succeeded in making the movie engaging to some extent.

College Episode is the most entertaining, engaging and refreshing aspect about 'Maharshi'. New Look and Body Language of Mahesh Babu is pleasing to watch in these scenes. This Youthful Episode is racy but there isn't much story in this part. Mahesh offers a monotonous feeling be it in the scenes in which he wore suits or formal dress. The actual story begins in the Second Half. An episode of Mahesh extending support to his Friend who is fighting against a Corporate Firm looks artificial because of too many cinematic liberties.

The protagonist does nothing much until the Pre-Climax though he reaches the Village with a goal. From then onwards, The pace of the movie picks up and the press meet sequence placed here is impressive. This is where the viewers get emotional but the impact could have been more if the villain role was etched out well. If not for 'Idhe Katha Idhe Katha' song, Climax could have been a mess. This emotional song brings a good feeling among the viewers before they step out of the theatres. Overall, 'Maharshi' has something for each and every section of audience but Vamshi hasn't succeeded in narrating the Journey Of Rishi in a most emotional and engaging manner.

Telangana Government offered permission to screen 5 shows of 'Maharshi' per day for the entire first week. Media kept reporting that the State Government offered permission for a hike in ticket prices as well apart from extra shows. Following which, There were mixed reactions from the public. The government kept feeling the pressure as objections were raised over increasing Single Screen Ticket by Rs 30 and Multiplex Ticket by Rs 50.

Immediately, Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav issued a clarification that Telangana Government hasn't taken any decision on Ticket Price Hike. Then, How did Makers of 'Maharshi' officially declared the hike in ticket prices? It came to the notice of TRS Government that Producers took advantage of the court notice they obtained in favor of ticket price hike in the past.

Cinematography Ministry is miffed about Maharshi Team taking the decision of ticket price hike without even informing the Government. Whether or not the ticket price hike will be permitted for 'Maharshi' remains to be a mystery for now. Wait & See What's Gonna Happen Tomorrow!

It looks like Mahesh Babu's upcoming film under the direction of Anil Ravipudi has become a comeback ground for many fading artists. And after the arrival of comedian Bandla Ganesh, who finally left politics for the good, here comes another entry.

Reportedly director Anil Ravipudi is said to have met former heroin and struggling politician Vijayashanti to do a character in their movie. After retiring from playing the lead roles in Telugu films, this actress confined herself to political work but wasn't seen even at film events. And now, she's likely to play a key role Mahesh's next.

Earlier Vijayashanti and Mahesh have worked together when our hero was still a teen, in Krishna's Koduku Diddina Kapuram that released in 1989. Looks like it will be their reunion on the silver screen after 30 years, but we have to see what is that role she will be playing inside the film. Some say that she will be seen as Mahesh's mother, but there is no confirmation about it.

In case if this news turns out to be true, then we have to see how Vijayashanti's second innings on the silver screen is going to be like.

Mahesh25 a.k.a Maharshi did not break any records in OS rights pricing as many expected. The distributors went conservative as the market did not improve as much as people expected.

Bharat Ane Nenu could collect 3.5 Million USD, but it did not make a profit for the distributors.

The same distributors, Great India Films, came forward to buy the rights of Maharshi but for Rs. 11.5 crores which is also huge for any film.

But the producers wanted an amount of Rs. 16 crores and for such a deal, they even pushed the movie by two weeks giving Avengers End Game ample time to settle down.

Had they gone with early plan of 25th April release? They would have ended up being gobbled up by Avengers movie.

Distributors in the USA, did agree to share a bigger profit margin if the movie crosses 16 crores threshold at the box office, it seems.

The Shamshabad airport on Sunday was on high alert after receiving a threatening call of hijack from an unknown person. Superstar Mahesh Babu's upcoming movie 'Maharshi' was shooting at airport and he returned home after being denied permission.

Before that, Mahesh reached airport at 7:30 AM and with the officials asking the crew of 'Maharshi' to wait for their consent regarding the shoot, Mahesh confined himself to his caravan.

For about five hours, the authorities of the airport did not give permission and Mahesh too patiently waited. Finally, they called off all activities in airport premises, Mahesh left to his home.

Contrary to the rumours, that Mahesh arrives to the sets late, here he showed his discipline and had no complains whatsoever.

Many who have worked with him say, Mahesh is workaholic and very passionate about films. Hence proved!

In recent times, films that are made with excessive budgets didn't work for Mahesh Babu. Rather they have ended up as cost-failures. But those movies that are taken care by him have done pretty well at the box office. Now, let's cut to 'Maharshi' movie.

Apparently, director Vamsi Paidipally is known for his excessive spendings and going overboard sometimes when it comes to the budget. His previous film 'Opiri' didn't make huge profits despite getting huge applause, because the production cost went up heavily. And when it comes to this Mahesh Babu starrer, it seems like here also huge budget is getting poured.

If we look at Maharshi's travels, the film got shot at Hyderabad, Ramoji Film City, Pune, Himachal Pradesh, New York (USA) and now they went to Abu Dhabi. Wonder if such many locations are really needed for the film or they are adding that grandeur, but producer Dil Raju (and Ashwini Dutt, PVP) is spending a bomb for sure.

The only thing that could save big budgeted films is that their under-control budget. Recently Dil Raju himself revealed that some films don't make money despite success talk. So, hope he is taking care of everything.
