Super 30:Hrithik Roshans Super 30 tax-free in Bihar, actor thanks CM and deputy CM

Hrithik Roshan has thanked Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Sushil Modi for making his latest film Super 30 tax-free in the state.

Hrithik Roshan plays Bihar mathematician Anand Kumar in Vikas Bahl’s Super 30.
Actor Hrithik Roshan’s latest offering is impressing fans, raking moolah at the box office and the film, Super 30, has now been declared tax free by Bihar Government.

Sharing the news with fans, Hrithik tweeted, “This is amazing Anand Sir thank you CM @NitishKumar ji and Deputy CM @SushilModi ji for this.

People living in Bihar will be able to purchase tax-free tickets to the film from tomorrow (Tuesday). The film chronicles the life story of Anand Kumar (Hrithik), an Indian mathematician’s journey from tutoring rich children in a top coaching center to opening an institute of his own in order to teach the underprivileged children.

Directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films, the film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Amit Sadh, and Nandish Sandhu in pivotal roles. The film, which opened to mixed reviews, performed remarkably well during its opening weekend and crossed the Rs. 50 crore mark at the domestic box office.

According to Box Office India, the movie’s growth on Sunday was limited but that was the case with all the other films playing, probably because of the much-hyped England vs New Zealand World Cup final as well as the 2019 Wimbledon final.

As per Box Office India, of all the films currently playing in theatres, ‘Super 30’ recorded the best Sunday performance at the box office.

The film has been performing very well down South in the Andhra and Mysore region. These regions alone raked in Rs. 3 crore making it the best film in these two circuits after Salman Khan’s ‘Bharat’ and Shahid Kapoor-starrer ‘Kabir Singh’ for the first weekend.

Latest News: Super 30 box office collection day 1: Hrithik Roshan starrer opens higher than Kaabil, collects over Rs 11 cr

Super 30 box office: The Hrithik Roshan starrer is estimated to have opened at around Rs 11.50 crore.

Super 30, starring Hrithik Roshan in the lead role of Bihar-based mathematician Anand Kumar, opened to a good response on Friday. The film collected Rs 11.83 crore on its first day.

Super 30’s box office opening is said to be higher than Ajay Devgn starrer Raid and Akshay Kumar starrer Padman. The collections are also higher than Hrithik’s last film, Kaabil, which released in 2017 with opening collections of around Rs 10.43 crore.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the opening figures of the film on Twitter. He wrote, “Super30 has a decent Day 1... Biz picked up at metros/urban centers [Mumbai and South specifically] towards evening... Mass pockets are ordinary/dull... Should witness growth on Day 2 and 3... Sustaining and proving its mettle on weekdays crucial... Fri Rs 11.83 Cr. India biz.”

He also updated the overseas box office collections of the film. “Super30 Overseas Day 1: $ 902k [₹ 6.18 cr]... Key markets...North America: $ 226k Middle East: Thu $ 192k, Fri $ 331k UK: $ 35k ANZ and Fiji: $ 47k Rest of the world: $ 71k,” he wrote.

Predicting an opening of around Rs 12 crore, film trade analyst Girish Johar had earlier told Hindustan Times, “The buzz is very good ever since the launch of the trailer. Quality of content matters a lot these days and Hrithik is coming after two years. Unlike his earlier films which have action, song and dance, it is not a commercial mass-entertainer but surely promises quality content.”

Celebrities reacted to Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the film is based on Indian mathematician Anand Kumar. Actor Hrithik Roshan plays the mathematician from Bihar. Anand Kumar is the founder of the Super 30 educational program

The film got rave reviews from Bollywood celebrities such as Farah Khan, Karan Johar and many others. Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani also watched the film and shared his reaction on Twitter. He wrote, “Super 30 is a film that showcases the life of struggle with all its reality. @teacheranand is an epitome of a simple teacher inspiring and becoming a ray of hope for the needy. @iHrithik has done admirable role to capture the essence of Anand’s character. Best wishes.”

The HT review of the film said, “When you exaggerate the extraordinary, it looks ordinary. Mathematics whiz and educator Anand Kumar has led a remarkable life, coaching hundreds of underprivileged children past the rigors of the Indian Institute of Technology entrance exams. His story deserves attention, but director Vikas Bahl confoundingly embellishes it into typical filmi fare in Super 30. For some reason, Kumar’s actual triumph wasn’t enough — therefore the filmmakers added clichéd adversity.”

The report quoted legal counsel of the students, Amit Goyal, as saying, “(The film) seems inauthentic. We never sought to damage the film, but he has a court case against him. His reply doesn’t answer the allegations completely. He is yet to reveal the names to the court. In such a scenario, this movie can send out an incorrect message.”

The IIT students had previously accused Anand of fraud, alleging he makes false claims regarding the success of his students. They had also demanded that he shares a list of students who made it to IIT JEE in 2016.

The Guwahati High Court had issued a notice last year too Anand, asking him to respond to the PIL filed by the students. The mathematician has reportedly not responded to the PIL.

This is not the first time Anand’s story will be witnessed onscreen. Discovery Channel made an hour-long documentary on Anand and his initiative Super 30. Yoichi Itoh, the chief economist of STB Research Institute, Japan, also made a film on Super 30 for Japan’s NHK channel and called Anand’s initiative the “secret weapon of India”.

Taking advantage of the Teacher's Day celebrations across the nation, Hrithik Roshan unveiled two posters of his upcoming movie Super 30 on Wednesday. The movie is based on the life of a Patna-based mathematician and teacher Anand Kumar.

The first look images show Hrithik Roshan and his reel students. With red tones dominating the image palette, in the first image, Hrithik is surrounded by his students and looking at the colour in the air, one can assume it's a Holi Day celebration. Hrithik captioned the image, "अब राजा का बेटा राजा नहीं बनेगा... अब राजा वही बनेगा जो हकदार होगा! (Now a King's son will no longer inherit the throne. Rightful, righteous will the new King.)
In the poster, Hrithik can be seen in a bearded look. His look resembles that of a man focused to achieve something greater than himself.

The second poster shows Hrithik's resolved face to bring in the change. The tight close-up image also shows his students who are seen following the footsteps of their onscreen teacher. Hrithik captioned the image, "वक़्त बदलने वाला है, Welcome to Super 30."

Hrithik Roshan's 'Super 30': Fact or fiction?

Hrithik Roshan's 'Super 30': Fact or fiction

A majority of people in Mumbai are unaware of it, but a strong movement around mathematician Anand Kumar has been playing out in Bihar over the last few days. A controversy has erupted against the Super 30 founder and several students. According to their parents, Anand has allegedly made some false claims. Reportedly, he had started the Super 30 programme in 2002 along with IPS officer Abhayanand in order to help and teach underprivileged kids, free of cost, to crack the IIT-JEE examinations. But in the wake of recent events and some media reports, which have been circulating on social media, it turns out that Anand is being accused of deceit.

While the mathematician is yet to tell us his side of the story, his detractors say that a scam may be unearthed.

We reached out to Abhayanand, who originally started the Super 30 coaching classes with Anand, as he has been vocal on social media. He told us, “From what I have read and heard, there are children who are distraught and concerned. Students, who were part of the Super 30 programme, are coming out and talking. The media has opened a channel of communication now and they are sending out their messages and opinions.”

(Abhayanand started a petition online to urge the filmmakers to reconsider making the film, Super 30)

‘Super 30 can’t be a biopic’

Anand’s life is being made into a Hindi film, titled Super 30, with Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan playing the mathematician. The biopic has largely been shot and one hears just 20 per cent of the shoot is left. The movie will hit the screens on January 25 next year. Talking about it, Abhayanand says, “I don’t know what’s there in the film. Even if it is based on the biography written by Anand, it can’t be a biopic. I’m aware of the window between 1992-2008 in his life. I have read the book partly, but in my opinion, a lot of it is just fiction. He cannot deny my presence and contribution to Super 30. If he can claim it was solely his thought, I can also say it was my brainchild. It makes little difference to anyone as long as it’s a thought to help the society. But that hasn’t happened.”

‘Anand has made tall claims’

Reports floating around in Bihar suggest that while Anand claimed 26 out of 30 students from his programme made the cut this year, he failed to show their credentials when asked to do so.

(An image of the article that appeared in a Patna newspaper)

Instead, apparently, only three students from his team have actually cleared the examination. The mathematician allegedly got 10-12 students from Kota and introduced them to the media stating that they were his students. Abhayanand further adds that Anand had ‘made tall claims about his success rate’, on the basis of which ‘students used to come to study under him’. “Now, his claims are turning out to be highly suspicious. He’s not adhering to transparency. He can call it a ‘coaching institute’ and nobody will say anything. But don’t claim to be a champion of social causes when you are just taking money from people. It has suddenly become a controversy because the truth’s coming out now. If the producers had done their homework, they would have known it all along,” he adds.

When asked whether Abhayanand had reached out to the filmmaker or the actor and informed them about the controversy, the IPS officer says, “It’s not my job to show Hrithik Roshan the truth. Why should I reach out to him or the makers of the film? Mujhe kisi ko gyaan nahi dena hai, I’m not their teacher.”

Abhayanand feels the makers “should have done proper research on him”, before announcing the biopic. “Whatever basic knowledge we have about biopics, it teaches us that when you make a film on someone’s life, you need to find out a lot more about that person from others around him. Look at Hollywood — they do such detailed research on someone’s life before making a movie on the person. For a film like Super 30, at least six-seven years of research needed to be done,” he says before adding, “How many times have they come to Patna and how many people have they spoken to before announcing the film? People take biopics seriously. The internet can be a place where you begin your research, but it can’t be the end of it. This is not ancient Indian history where there can be lack of clarity.”

Although Abhayanand doesn’t want to jump to conclusions just as yet, a few pictures of Hrithik from the sets (where he is selling papad) have surprised him. He avers, “I heard they are showing that Anand Kumar had a poor background and used to sell papads! His neighbour, who also happens to be his first cousin and worked with him, has gone ahead and told everyone how these reports are false. They have told news channels that Anand’s father had 20 bighas (acres) of land and they all used to stay together. Patna mein makaan garib aadmi ka nahin hota hai. His father was doing government service. Yes, his mother would make papads but they were for the family. Woh bikta nahin tha! So how can they show a different story altogether?”

Responding to reports that suggested that Abhayanand was planning to take legal action against Anand, the erstwhile partner of Super 30 states hesitatingly, “I can’t tell you this right now. I don’t know because I haven’t watched the film yet. It will depend on what they show in the movie. If they omit me or show me in a bad light, it’s their prerogative. Until it comes out, I can’t do anything because the court will question me.”

We called Anand Kumar and his brother Pranav Kumar, and followed up our phone calls with text messages to both siblings, asking them for their side of the story. We texted filmmaker Vikas Bahl seeking his comment on the matter. Lastly, we sent out text messages and a mail to a representative of the film corporation which is bankrolling Super 30; we got no response from any of the concerned parties till the time of going to press.

TV actress Mrunal Thakur to play a classical dancer in Hrithik Roshan's Super 30

TV actress Mrunal Thakur will soon make her Hindi film debut with Super 30. The Hrithik Roshan-starrer, which releases early next year, is based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar.
