Hichki Box-Office: Rani Mukerji film Earns Over 20 Crores in Five Days

Rani Mukerji has retained her tag as "Queen of Hearts' even after returning to the big screen after a gap of four years. Hichki is doing well at the box-office and has earned over 20 crores in barely five days of its release.

The film with a social message not just got good reviews from the film critics but is also raking in moolah thanks to good word of mouth publicity for the film. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed that the film is rock steady and has earned 20.10 crores in 961 screens across India. The film has survived tough competition from Ajay Devgn's 'Raid' and Kartik Aaryan and Sunny Singh's 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' at the ticket window as well.
According to the producers, the project had recovered its cost even before the release, through "non-theatrical revenue aperture". Maneesh Sharma, the producer of the film, is delighted with the overwhelming audience response. "Such reaction is truly humbling. We backed a film that was raising an important social message and could affect genuine social change... The Rs 20 crore budget inclusive of all costs was recovered before the film released at the theatres through non-theatrical revenue aperture," he said in a statement.

"The success of 'Hichki' gives us a lot of confidence to produce such universally appealing subjects that can touch the hearts of audiences worldwide," he added.

In the film, Rani plays the character of Naina Mathur who has a nervous system disorder, Tourette Syndrome, that forces an individual to make involuntary repetitive movements or sounds.

"Hichki" is directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Maneesh Sharma and Aditya Chopra.
