Remarks against Valmiki community: Supreme Court to hear Salman Khan's plea seeking quashing of FIRs tomorrow

The Supreme Court will on Monday hear the plea of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan who has moved the top court over cases filed against him for alleged defamatory remarks against a community.
The apex court in April had stayed criminal proceedings and the inquiry initiated against the actor for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Valmiki community during the promotions of his film 'Tiger Zinda Hai'.
Along with Salman, Shilpa Shetty was also accused of hurting the community's sentiments for using derogatory terms. The alleged derogatory term used for the Valmiki community had irked its members who had then lodged police complaints against the two actors.
The supreme court will hear the case on Monday i.e. July 23. A top court bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra will decide whether or not to dismiss the complaints filed against the actor in several states.
In the previous hearing, Supreme court had stalled all the cases filed against the actor under the SC/ST act. The court had asked all the plaintiffs to submit their documents.
In the video, that had gone viral last year, Salman and Shilpa were allegedly seen making fun of a certain cast. Members of the Valmiki community had protested against the release of 'Tiger Zinda Hai' across six Indian states, including Rajasthan.
"I recently saw content on social media in which Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty uttered casteist remarks in which they insulted the Valmiki community. My community's sentiments are hurt by their remarks. Kindly initiate action against Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty under the sections of the Atrocity Act," a memorandum signed by Kirankumar Solanki, national president of Valmiki Swaraj Abhiyan, and Ishwar Solanki, president of the All Gujarat Rushi Samaj Sena, had said.
