'Megha Gas' To Bring Piped Gas To Every Home In 10 District Of Telangana

Hyderabad: Cooking gas to every household is no longer a pipe dream for rural areas of the country. This dream is being realized soon as the union government has embarked on an ambitious mission to provide piped cooking gas connection to all households. Megha Engineering has bagged a project to supply piped cooking gas to all households in 10 districts of Telangana state. Under this project totally 5.5 lakh homes will get piped gas connections. A communication awarding the project has been received from Vandana Sharma, Secretary, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) says Mr. P. Rajesh Reddy, Associate Vice President, MEIL.

PNGRB has recently invited bidsin concurrence with the Government of India's objective to provide commercial cooking gas to every home in rural areas. MEIL has won three bids covering 10 districts in Telangana state. Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jayshankar Bhupalapally, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, BhadradriKothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, YadadriBhuvanagiri districts will come under these three bids. While some more bids are yet to be opened.

The government aims to provide piped gas connections to one crore households by 2020. Megha has been already supplying piped gas to households, industrial needs, and CNG to motor vehicles in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh and Belagavi district of Karnataka. MEIL which started piped gas supply under the tagline 'Megha Gas its Smart - its Good' is all set to bring piped cooking gas to lakhs of households in ten districts of Telangana.

3100 km pipeline in ten districts:

As part of this project, Megha Gas will lay an 800-inch kilometer (length of gas pipeline is measured in inch kilometers) in Khammam and Kothagudem districts. Likewise, another 800-inch kilometer of the pipeline has to be laid in Warangal rural, urban, Jangaon, JayashankarBhoopalapally, Mahabubabad districts. A 1500 inch kilometer pipeline is to be laid in Nalgonda, Suryapet, YadadriBhuvanagiri districts. Totally 80 filling stations are to be set up in ten districts. Under this project, 1 lakh households in Warangal urban & rural, JayashankarBhupalpally, Jangaon, and Mahabubabad districts and 3.5 lakh households in Nalgonda, Suryapet, YadadriBhuvanagiri districts will get piped cooking gas connections. The gas will be drawn from a trunk line network being built as part of the project. The entire project is to be completed in eight years' time.

The government of India has received 400 bids to supply piped cooking gas to households in 86 areas of the country. PNGRB is anticipating to raise investments of Rs.70, 000 crore from the successful bidders. Bids were invited to supply piped cooking gas and CNG in 174 districts of 22 states and union territories. The Government of India aimed to provide piped cooking gas to half of the population in 640 districts of the country through the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network. Already 36 companies have laid 16.500 km of gas pipeline in 91 areas of the country and commissioned supply of gas to 43 lakh households, 33 industrial and commercial outlets. 19 percent population of the country has access to this network. Megha Gas has already commenced piped gas supply operations in Agiripalli, Kannur in Krishna district of AP, Tumkur and Belagavi districts of Karnataka.
