News: "Terrorism biggest threat to humanity": Watch PM Modi's remark at informal BRICS meeting ahead of G20 summit in Japan

Speaking at the informal BRICS leaders' meeting in Osaka, Modi said that there is a need to stop all the mediums of support to terrorism and racism.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that terrorism is the biggest threat to humanity which not only kills innocents but also severely affects the economic development and social stability.

Speaking at the informal BRICS leaders' meeting in Osaka, Modi said that there is a need to stop all the mediums of support to terrorism and racism.

"Terrorism is the biggest threat to humanity. It not only kills innocents but also severely affects the economic development and social stability," he said.

He added that "global coalition against terror was the need the of the hour"

Prime Minister Modi also gave "five suggestions" to tackle 'three major challenges" that he outlined at the meeting with BRICS leaders' informally on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

The Prime Minister also said that the development of the global economy is largely driven by one-sided decisions and disputes felt by the entire system.


"We should still focus on the World Trade Organisation (WTO) reform to achieve balanced development of the global economy and so this growth is open to everyone," Modi said.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO), in a tweet, said that the Prime Minister also spoke about strengthening WTO, fighting protectionism, ensuring energy security and the need to work together to fight terrorism.

The resolve to fight protectionism comes as an important highlight given the scenario of US-China trade war, and the fact that in the last G20 summit, US President Donald Trump practically forced the G20 leaders to give up their lifelong pledge of fighting protectionism, in lieu of the US' protectionist policies in trade.
