Hopeful of winning eight of the 10 Lok Sabha constituencies where polling has already been held in West Bengal, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh Tuesday claimed that the TMC will not be able to secure any of them.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has created an atmosphere of terror in the state, but things are changing now and people are attending BJP rallies in hordes ignoring threats from ruling party activists, Ghosh claimed. This has forced TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to go for unscheduled roadshows abandoning her plan to fly across the state in a helicopter, he asserted at a Meet the Press organized by the Press Club, Kolkata. "We are in a better position in the 10 seats where polling is over in the first three phases. We are going to win at least seven to eight of them. I believe that Mamata Banerjee will not be able to digest this but the TMC will draw a blank," he said.

Claiming that the political situation in West Bengal has been changing in favor of the BJP, Ghosh said, "This has not been the situation even six months ago. Now, if you go to the remotest area of the state you will see BJP there." "Mamata Banerjee saw thin attendance at her rallies and bumper crowd in ours. People are joining our rallies in hordes without any fear. And because of this, she has chosen to go for roadshows leaving the helicopter," he said. Banerjee has been holding unscheduled roadshows at various constituencies of late.

"In this situation, we are confident of winning 23 seats," said Ghosh, an MLA who is contesting from Kharagpur Lok Sabha constituency. He claimed that there is a wave in favor of Prime Minister Narendra Modi across the country and the state. Asked whether the "Modi wave" will be able to tackle the claims of development by Banerjee, the BJP leader said, "I cannot say whether or not there has been development. The people will decide on that. But if you (Banerjee) really have given the development, why are you (Mamata) scared of the Modi wave."

Denying Banerjee's allegation that the RSS and the BJP are helping former President Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee, a Congress candidate, win from Jangipur seat, Ghosh said the TMC chief is talking "nonsense" as she is sensing defeat. "We must remember that the RSS is not into politics.

The RSS is in the state for quite some time. If they would help any party, it would have been the BJP," he said. On the TMC chief's claims that the CPI(M) and the Congress have joined hands with the BJP only to defeat her, Ghosh said, "The Congress and the CPI(M) had an agreement during the last Assembly election but they do not have it now. People are least interested in them. Now, the CPI(M) is claiming that Congress is with the TMC. What the three will do are up to them."

Just ahead of the Budget presentation in the Assembly, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi of destroying the country's democracy.

The CM also went on to say that he has proof to prove his point and expose the double talk of the PM.

Kumaraswamy said, "He (PM) is systemically demolishing this country's democracy, misleading the people, I request all the opposition parties to rise. They must expose the truth of the Prime Minister in the parliament."

"BJP is disrupting the functioning of the state assembly. Its operation Kamala is going on, and it is trying to steal our MPs in Karnataka," the Karnataka CM  alleged.

"On one side Narendra Modi is preaching to the country and politicians, on the other side, he is encouraging his friends to demolish democracy through black money. I will expose this now, I have the proof to back my charge," he further went on to say.

Reacting, former Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa called the tapes ‘fake’. BJP, on the other hand, while lashing out at Kumaraswamy said that his "fake hit & run allegations are not something new".

The official Twitter page of the party wrote, "In a desperate attempt to save his govt full-time movie producer turned part-time CM @hd_kumaraswamy has used his connection to mimic @BSYBJP’s voice. Your fake hit & run allegations are not something new. BTW here is one of your audio."

HD Kumaraswamy, earlier in the day, removed dissenting Congress MLA Umesh Jadhav from the post of the chairman of the Warehouse Corporation. He replaced him with Pratap Gowda Patil.

Further, fuelling speculation of defection, seven MLAs from Congress and three from BJP, on Thursday abstained from the Assembly's Budget Session.

In the 224-member Assembly, Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) has 37 MLAs, BJP has 104 MLAs, while Congress has 80 members.

In the run up to State Assembly elections, the BJP High Command constituted a BJP state manifesto committee in its efforts to retain Daggubati Purandeswari within the party, amid rumors of her plans to shift to YSR Congress party.

The Manifesto Committee will have Purandeswari as the Chairperson while former Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao has been appointed the Convener. Other members of the committee are P Vijaya Babu, MLC P N V Madhav, Dasari Srinivasulu, Shaik Mastan, Paka Satyanarayana, K Kapileswaraiah, P.Sanyasi Raju Murali, Sudhish Rambhotla and Prof. D A R Subrahmanyam.

The press release issued by BJP state president Kanna Lakshminarayana indicated that the committee will be preparing the manifesto of the party for the upcoming elections. The appointment comes at a time when the YSRCP had offered to give a ticket from Parchur to Purandeswari's son Hitesh Chenchuram while Purandeswari and her husband Daggubati Venkateswara Rao also planned to jump ship as YSRCP had promised to offer her Vijayawada Lok Sabha ticket.

BJP's attempts to stop its top leaders' exodus are evident. Earlier, when Kanna Lakshminarayana was planning to join the YSRCP, the party leadership offered him the State unit President's post. Recently, BJP's Rajahmundry MLA Akula Satyanarayana quit the party to join Jana Sena while another MLA Ramakotaiah is also planning to join the TDP. Ahead of polls, there will be many more who will either quit the party or join it.

Rajahmundry urban MLA Akula Satyanarayana, who had won on BJP ticket with TDP's support in 2014, has resigned to his party. He is likely to join Pawan Kalyan's Janasena very soon. It is learned that Akula is in touch with Pawan and his team and has got clear assurance. Akula is planning to join Janasena in the presence of Pawan on 21st January.

Although Akula was in BJP, he had been maintaining cordial relation with Janasena. He had earlier celebrated Pawan Kalyan's birthday on 2nd September in Rajahmundry with fanfare.

Akula had been facing a lot of ire from people. The development in Rajahmundry city isn't as expected. A lot of problems are still persistent as Akula failed to address. Be it supply of drinking water or disbursement of pensions to people in his constituency or housing to poor, Akula have failed to deliver. All these are working against him.

Now, Akula is planning to join Janasena and hoping to bank on Pawan's individual charisma.

Meanwhile, TDP's sr leader and Rajahmundry rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary is likely to move to Rajahmundry urban constituency in the coming elections. Akula's resignation to BJP is seen as a setback to Lotus party. One has to wait and see, whether Akula would be helpful to Janasena or not.

I thank people of Tripura for their continued trust in BJP's politics of development under the guidance of PM @narendramodi," Shah said.

4. CPI(M) claims foul play


The opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) alleged that there were violent attacks, threats and physical attacks on candidates and forceful withdrawal of nomination. CPI(M) claimed that their candidates could not submit nominations for most seats facilitating the BJP candidates to win without any contest.

The BJP on Tuesday released its manifesto for the December 7 Rajasthan polls, saying it had met 95 percent of the promises it had made in 2013.

The manifesto was unveiled by Union ministers Arun Jaitley and Prakash Javadekar, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, in the presence of BJP leaders and workers here.

The BJP government in the state met 630 of the 665 promises made in the 2013 Rajasthan manifesto, Raje said prior to releasing the manifesto.

"The overall completion is 95 percent," she said.

Raje also highlighted several points of the 2018 manifesto, saying 50 lakh jobs will be created in private sector in next five years in Rajasthan and every year, 30,000 jobs will be given in the government sector.

The chief minister also said up to Rs 5,000 per month will be given as unemployment allowance to eligible youths above the age of 21 years.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first election speech in Alwar on Sunday gives a peek into BJP's poll strategy for Rajasthan. PM Modi moved beyond caste and communities and propagated a society that did not differentiate on any grounds. The PM mentioned ideologies of Kabir, Raidas, Soordas, Valmiki, Ramanand and equated it to the BJP's ideology of inclusiveness. He molded their couplets to project BJP's ideology of 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas'.

The Prime Minister quoted a couplet from Kabir, the largest influencer of Bhakti movement, that said all men were equal like water from a well and so should be the case in society. He spoke of the Sikh saints who believed all to be equal and cited eating food in a langar as an example.

Quoting a couplet of Saint Ramananda — founder of Ramanandi Sampradaya, the largest monastic Hindu renunciative community in modern times — Modi said, "Jo Hari Ko Bhaje Hari ka Hoy" (the one who pays obeisance to the Lord is close to the Lord) and adapted it as a projection of BJP's ideology of inclusiveness. Replacing Hari PM Modi said, "Jo garib ko bhaje garib ka hoy." He said farmers, poor, women, deprived, youth, public and the nation were all forms of the lord and BJP approached them as such.

Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took oath as the new president of Maldives on Saturday in the presence of 17 foreign dignitaries and representatives from 46 countries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India was the only country invited at the Head of State/Government level. And the symbolism was clear from the start. PM Modi gave warm hugs to former presidents of Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Mohamed Nasheed, when he reached the national stadium ahead of the ceremony. He also sat between the two former presidents throughout, and when the ceremony ended, President Solih also hugged PM Modi.

But symbolism aside, words also played a major role. During his address to the nation after the oath-taking ceremony, the only country Solih specifically mentioned was India. "We will endeavour to fortify existing ties with India, and Maldives will hereupon bolster its shared role to retain enduring peace and harmony of the Indian Ocean," he said.

 
After the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi was warmly received by Solih in his office. A joint statement was also released which noted the "resilience of relations between India and the Maldives", and both leaders "expressed confidence in the renewal of close bonds of cooperation and friendship with the election of Mr Solih as President of the Maldives".

Experts believe PM Modi's visit to Maldives is meant to send out a message: India now fully backs the new government in Male. Maldives is interestingly the only SAARC country that Modi has not yet visited since taking over in 2014.

The two leaders on Saturday agreed on the need for facilitating easier visa procedures. Under outgoing president Yameen, people to people ties had suffered, with Indians being denied visas and work permits. Indians are the second largest expatriate community in the Maldives with an approximate strength of around 22,000.

On the economic front, Solih briefed PM Modi on the dire economic situation in the country, and the two discussed ways in which India can continue the development partnership. Solih highlighted the pressing need for increased housing and infrastructure development as well as for establishing water and sewage systems in the outlying islands. The fear is that under former president Yameen, due to increased Chinese infrastructure projects, the country went through a serious debt issue. Modi, however, assured Solih of India's firm commitment to assisting Male in achieving sustainable social and economic development. He also conveyed India's readiness to extend help in every possible way and suggested that both sides meet at the earliest to work out details as per Maldives' requirements.

 
Later, PM Modi also extended an invitation to President Solih to make a state visit to India at his earliest convenience. The minister of foreign affairs of Maldives will also be visiting India on November 26 to hold further discussions and to prepare for President Solih's impending visit.

Actor-turned-politician Paresh Rawal on Thursday lambasted his own party colleagues in Gujarat BJP during a convention held in Ahmedabad. Rawal, who is also an MP from Ahmedabad East, called Gujarat BJP members and workers worthless and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to campaign across the state to ensure party's victory in the Assembly polls. He made the statements while addressing a large gathering in the presence of CM Vijay Rupani.

"PM Narendra Modi had to travel across Gujarat during Assembly polls to ensure the party's win in the state. If he has to make all the efforts for BJP's victory in Gujarat, we should be called worthless," Rawal said. "Let him handle the national chores of India and we should take care of things in Gujarat."

Praising the PM, Rawal further said: "Our PM Narendra Modi is Bahubali and has all the qualifying virtues required in a complete man. He can make the US kneel before India. We must understand that the Congress is trying to spew the venom of casteism in India to come to power."

Rawal was delivering his speech to the gathering of party workers and leaders of Ahmedabad city on the occasion of post-Diwali and New Year congregation.

At the same event, Rupani also made an announcement that his government would soon start online non-agricultural permit issuance in rural areas through district panchayats.

"We have delivered transparent governance during our 22 years of rule in Gujarat," the CM said. "The Congress had always exploited the people of Gujarat and India, while the BJP empowered them. Those who were not ready to look at each other are now talking of Maha Gathbandhan to compete with the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls, but they will not succeed.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has awarded tickets to close family members of several party leaders to contest the December 7 assembly election in Rajasthan, deviating from its stand against dynastic politics.

Party leaders said the deviation was necessitated to avoid revolt within the party.

The party was taking each step in ticket distribution cautiously to avoid revolt within the party, which otherwise could play spoilsport and affect its prospects in the crucial election.


In the BJP's first list of 131 candidates released on Sunday night, the party has given ticket to its 85 sitting MLAs and has taken care of the family members of prominent leaders who were denied ticket.

The first list comprises sons, grandsons and daughter-in-laws of several prominent leaders of the BJP.

The saffron party has given due attention to family members of leaders who died owing to health issues.

The BJP has given ticket to Ram Swaroop Lamba, the son of late MP Sanwar Lal Jat, to contest election from Nasirabad seat and to Shailesh Singh, the son of late former state minister Digamber Singh, from Deeg-Kumher seat.

The party has once again reposed faith in Lamba, who was fielded to contest the Lok Sabha bypoll from Ajmer seat earlier this year. He had lost the election to Congress's Raghu Sharma by 80,000 votes.

From Kolayat Assembly seat in Bikaner district, the party has given ticket to senior leader Devi Singh Bhati's daughter-in-law Poonam Kanwar. It has fielded Rishi Bansal's wife Ritu from Bayana seat in Bharatpur district.

The other names include former minister Nandlal Meena's son Hemant Meena from Pratapgarh, former legislator Gurjant Singh's grandson Gurveer Singh Brar, former legislator Kailash Bhansali's nephew Atul Bhansali from

Jodhpur and former legislator Kunjilal's son Rajendra Meena from Bamanwas.

The leaders say that the step has been taken to avoid revolt as well as to avert results similar to the 2008 assembly election when the BJP had to lose power due to loss of more than 15 seats. The party could secure 78 seats and the Congress too could not touch the magic figure to form government.

If the party had not suffered a jolt due to revolt against then Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, the BJP could have formed the government taking along Independent candidates, they said. The Congress won 96 seats in the 2008 assembly election. The BSP won six seats and Independents 14 in the 2008 election.

Once the nomination process for the state assembly elections will be over, prime minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah will embark on tour of Rajasthan that is slated to begin from November 23. During the campaigning, the BJP stalwarts will address rallies in different districts across the state.

Meanwhile, the nomination process for the state assembly elections will start from November 12 and candidates will be able to file nomination by November 19. It is on  November 22 that the Election Commission (EC) will release the final list of candidates. Tentative programme of the proposed election meetings has been sent by BJP central leadership to the state unit. According to sources, PM Modi and party national president Amit Shah will address election rallies till December 4. During this 12-day period, the PM will address 10 meetings and his first rally will be held on November 23 in Alwar district which will be followed by rallies in Jaipur and Bhilwara districts on November 26. On November 27 PM Modi will address rallies in Nagaur and Kota, on November 28 he will be in Dungarpur and Dausa, and on December 4 he will cover Hanumangarh, Sikar and Jodhpur. Amit Shah, who will hold 15 public meetings, is likely to address address two to three public meetings in a day.

According to BJP sources, in the last assembly elections PM Modi addressed 12 public meetings in Rajasthan. Polling in Rajasthan this year is scheduled to be held after assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, MP, Telangana and Mizoram and that’s why PM will first address public meetings in these states. Last time Modi came to Rajasthan on October 6 and addressed a public meeting in Ajmer. The day also marked the closing ceremony of chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra.

Other BJP leaders who will also visit the state as part of the election campaign include Rajnath Singh, Yogi Adityanath, Vijay Rupani.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on demonetization made it clear that their target was to "wipe out black money" and route the currency back into the system. "To break the grip of corruption and black money, we have decided that the five hundred rupee and thousand rupee currency notes presently in use will no longer be legal tender from midnight tonight, that is 8th November 2016," Modi said. "The five hundred and thousand rupee notes hoarded by anti-national and anti-social elements will become just worthless pieces of paper," he added.

Now, two years after demonetization, neither could black money be removed nor could the economy improve. According to a survey by Local Circles, a whopping 60% of Indians said that black money in the country has not died; in fact, its circulation is going to only increase before the 2019 General Elections.

In fact, the economy took a sharp knock from the cash crunch, with growth sliding to as low as 5.6 percent in the quarter through June 2017. Rupee devalued further, banks took a hit due to lack of currency, fuel prices skyrocketed and availability of cash is still scarce even today. Not only did this move of the Central government hit small business, it also dealt a severe blow to the informal sector, daily wage earners and farmers in rural India. Another growth setback came last year when the government introduced the Goods and Service Tax, which was marred by glitches and disrupted business activity. But, the Union government still believes that "Demonetisation is a key step in a chain of important decisions taken by the Government to formalise the economy," as Arun Jaitley said today.

It is clear that along with the honest who stood in line and deposited their cash in banks, the dishonest got the better of the government. They discovered innumerable ways to deposit their illegal holdings of cash in the banks, which is not such a success for recovering black money as the Modi government claims.

For instance: There has been no change in the splurge of money in elections since the Uttar Pradesh elections of 2017. We should expect a huge spurt ahead of the 2019 elections in illegal expenses, which are always made more by the ruling party since it usually has access to more funds. Its system of electoral bonds (introduced in 2017 after demonetization) in which the donor is anonymous - and can, therefore, call in favors after an election - is designed for corruption. Though the BJP government claimed that it won the UP elections because people accepted demonetization, they couldn't claim the same in Karnataka. And, neither can the BJP go to 2019 elections calling demonetization as an achievement or success.

In fact, Prime Minister Modi made outlandish remarks saying: "Give me 50 days. Burn me alive if I'm wrong." It is beyond 730 days and the Prime Minister is still dishing out the same old marketing pitches to the people of his country. The mood has changed and the Modi wave is slowly disappearing. What the BJP government claimed as a success has actually been one of the biggest disasters for India and its citizens. The whole episode reflects that the citizens of India have immense patience and are mute spectators to such decisions that a brute State takes by using its power to render citizens powerless.

After being stopped by AAP members from being part of the Signature Bridge inauguration by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, a miffed Manoj Tiwari, the Delhi BJP chief who got into a brawl with the police issued a warning to the men in kakhi.

He said he has identified those who misbehaved and also named Additional DCP R P Meena.

The scuffle started as AAP did not want BJP leader to take any credit for the long overdue Signature Bridge.

Ravindra Yadav, Joint CP Eastern Range said that police staff on duty at the place of the function performed their task with utmost restraint and diligence.

"The main function was held smoothly without any disturbance. Though there was slogan shouting police segregated the groups and did not allow any clash or violence to take place. The situation was handled very professionally by Delhi Police and not allowed to take an ugly turn," he said

The iconic bridge was announced in 2004 and since then has missed several deadlines and on Sunday was scheduled to be finally inaugurated by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. The Signature Bridge is an eight-lane carriageway connecting Outer Ring Road and Wazirabad Road which reduces travel time for those going towards Ghaziabad side by more than 30 minutes.

The bridge boasts of 127 strands of back-stay cables, spherical bearings of 17,300-tonne vertical capacity, pendulum bearing to resist uplift of 6,300 tonnes, and transportation and handling of 460-tonne pylon base segment.

The iconic bridge will provide a huge boost to the economy of the area as it will draw tourists from across NCR, India and even abroad. It would have an impact on the socio-cultural fabric of the area.

Union Home Minister and Senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh's visit to Andhra Pradesh soon after Cyclone Titli ravaged Srikakulam. His visit comes at a time when BJP is trying to make inroads in South India, especially into Andhra Pradesh.

While BJP has already sent its MP GVL Narasimha Rao to AP to increase its attack on TDP, the saffron party has lost brownie points as Rajnath Singh left the state without visiting Cyclone-affected areas. Had he visited and met victims affected by the Cyclone, it would have created, if not positive, a neutral wave for BJP in Andhra Pradesh.

This missed opportunity not only reflects a message that BJP wants to put all its forces against the TDP government but also is a testimony to the fact that it is ignorant about Andhra Pradesh. This has re-established that it is looking at Andhra Pradesh only for political gains and is not willing to support the state's development.

Rajnath Singh at a meeting said "The Congress is taking its last breath. Chandrababu Naidu thinks he can keep it alive for a while by placing it on a ventilator. But the Congress is not going to survive," Rajnath Singh asserted, indirectly referring to the TDPs efforts to tie-up with the Congress.

Whoever fell into its (Congress) trap have gone," he remarked. However, Rajnath Singh or the BJP do not understand that it is the TDP that has had a stronghold in the state and not the saffron party. BJP should at least make amends to itself and its attitude towards Telugu states in 2019 elections. If not, it might lose the tiny voter-base it has.
