Ncie Pic: Like father, like son? Shah Rukh Khan teaches AbRam how to do his iconic pose

Shah Rukh Khan and AbRam wish everyone a 'Merry Christmas'

As the holiday season is approaching and knocking at the door, Bollywood celebrities too are gearing up for the festivities.

Pre-Christmas bashes have already begun in B-town, with producer Ritesh Sidhwani hosting a party on Saturday night which was attended by biggies, including Ranveer Singh, Malaika Arora-Arjun Kapoor, Karan Johar, Sidharth Malhotra, and others.

Shah Rukh Khan's house, Mannat, to has been brightly lit, just like it had been for Diwali.

In fact, looks like celebrations have already begun at the SRK's house as Gauri Khan shared an adorable photo of the actor, striking a pose with his younger son AbRam, while standing in the middle of all the lights.

Shah Rukh and AbRam, both can be seen posing in the trademark SRK romantic pose.

Gauri captioned the image as, "Merry Christmas!"

The Zero actor too retweeted the picture shared by his wife and captioned it, "Sitaron ke khwaab dekhne waalon humne chaand ko paida kiya hai…Merry Christmas to you all."

Shah Rukh Khan and and AbRam are the cutest father-son duos, and every time the two are seen together, our heart melts.

A few days back, Gauri Khan had shared another picture of the two, where Shah Rukh can be seen sitting on an iron bench, while AbRam is giving him a kiss on his forehead.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan's film Zero hit the silver screens on December 21.

The film which also stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif have unfortunately failed to impress the audience so far and has been underperforming at the box office.

The film has made only around Rs 38 crore in two days.

In Aanand L Rai's Zero, Shah Rukh Khan essays the role of a vertically challenged man from Meerut named Bauua Singh.

He is in a complicated love triangle with a wheelchair-bound scientist played by Anushka and an actress battling alcoholism, Katrina.

The film has special appearances by Sridevi, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Rani Mukerji, Kajol, Karisma Kapoor and Salman Khan.

Movie Review Zero: A hero in SRK makes Zero a great entertainer!

Movie Review: ZERO

   3/5
| | 17 November 2018
CAST
Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sheeba Chaddha
Producer: Gauri Khan
Director: Anand L Rai
'All that glitters is not gold' and Zero has proved it. Anand L Rai who is known for his realistic films and giving us some of the most loved films has made us realize that only star power and performances are not mandatory to make a great film, a strong script and equally brilliant narration is also required.

Zero is a story set in Meerut where Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan) a vertically challenged man, is living with his family and has a huge crush on Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif), a glamorous film actress who rules millions of hearts. Bauua's father Ashok (Tigmanshu Dhulia), wants him to get settled in life so Bauua gets to meet Aafia (Anushka Sharma) a differently ables scientist suffering from cerebral palsy. Bauua fell for Aafia, without even bothering about her disabilities and feels she is like him, incomplete, but doesn't want to get married and ran away from his wedding to meet Babita.

The first half is over with so many hustle and bustle. Lots of happy moments in the first half which will bring a smile on your face, throughout the first half.

Here comes the second half Bauua meets Babita. Is it the end of the story? No, there are lots more to come. Has Bauua forgot Aafia and what about Babita? What is next? This is second half with lots of questions and lots of things happening all together and you get confused and forgot about the original plot, which is actually nothing.

But don't worry there are few comic scenes and comic moments in the second half too, which will provide some respite in this tense situation. There are some beautiful moments in the film, especially in the first half, which will leave you mesmerized.

Shah Rukh Khan as a vertically challenged, a happy go lucky person is exceptionally great and has delivered a stellar performance. This is one of the best performances of Shah Rukh Khan which will be remembered for many years.

Anushka Sharma as Aafia is brilliant and perfectly played a differently able scientist's character.

Katrina Kaif as Babita Kumari has a rather short role in comparison to Shah Rukh and Anushka but she is impressive. Her glamorous avatar has once again been utilized brilliantly.

Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Guddu, Bauua's friend is superb and witty. His one-liners come to rescue when you feel lost.

Cameo appearances by Madhavan and Abhay Deol are good on their parts.

The music of the film has already won many hearts and is topping the charts.

So what went wrong to make this beautiful looking film to be a great film? Well, it is Himanshu Sharma, a National Award winning writer who might have this disbelief that big star cast is enough to pull the audience. A big star cast can be useful but he might have forgotten that in today's times content is the king.

The editing team should also understand that with this type of plot and weak script, more efforts are needed and the second half could have been shorter and crispier to hold audience's intrigue.

Anand L Rai as the director has also disappointed us. It was not expected from him and he should have done more efforts.

Overall, Zero is a good film but it could be great. With some stellar performances, you can ignore its weak points. Aesthetically it's a beautiful film with high production values. If you are a fan of Shah Rukh Khan, it's a treat for you.

"Zero" team Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Aanand L Rai, R Madhavan bond over samosas pre-release

Team Zero alias Aanand L Rai, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and R Madhavan eating samosas

Aanand L Rai has become one of the most demanded directors after he made content films Tanu Weds Manu, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Nil Battey Sannata, Raanjhanaa and wrote Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, all of which tasted success and brought about a fresh change.

Knowing this is his forte, the same is expected from his upcoming release Zero which stars Shah Rukh Khan as a vertically challenged man along with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Shah Rukh Khan, who hasn’t had a great experience at the Box Office in recent times, needed a movie like this, the director himself had also confessed.

Apart from making Shah Rukh Khan’s career, the director has another talent, which was posted on the Red Chillies Entertainment YouTube page. Aanand L Rai has a special fondness for samosas, so to tease him, SRK had created a signboard which stated ‘Pehle mera samosa waapis karo’ which also featured Aanand L Rai’s face.

WATCH VIDEO HERE:

The filmmaker’s love for samosas goes to the extent that now when he went out for lunch with his Zero team involving Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and R. Madhavan, the special dish there was nothing but samosas.

While Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif play the lead roles in the film, R Madhavan, who regained his popularity in Bollywood with Aanand L Rai’s Tanu Weds Manu franchise, will be seen in a cameo appearance in Zero.

Although the four of them seem to be having a great time, we definitely miss the main lead of the film Bauua Singh aka Shah Rukh Khan, since afterall ‘Woh jiske peeche lagg jaate hai, uski life bana dete hai’.

"Shah Rukh Khan encourages the women in his films to shine": Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif has been in the industry for 15 years now. However, despite the highs and lows in her personal as well as professional life, one thing that has remained constant about her is that she’s not pretentious. Those who have worked with the Tiger Zinda Hai actress claim that what you see is what you get. Not surprising then, when industry colleagues praise her perseverance and hard work, one can’t help questioning her choices when it comes to certain roles and movies. Given the hits she’s been part of, she could have bargained for stronger parts, than say, a Thugs Of Hindostan, which didn’t exactly justify her presence. When we catch up with the actress, who plays a superstar in the Shah Rukh Khan-Anushka Sharma-starrer Zero, for a candid chat, she tells us what governs her choices. Excerpts…

When Aanand L Rai started working on Zero, did you have an inkling that you would be a part of it?

Yes, I had been in talks with Aanand sir from the time of its conception. In fact, I was in touch with him since the release of Raanjhanaa (2013) as I had loved the film and its music. At that time, we spoke about doing a movie together. One day, he told me about this film (Zero). At that time, it was just an idea he had. Since then, I’ve been with him on this journey. I got the experience of working with him and getting a chance to create something that we wanted to do together. Now, that we’re putting it out there, I hope the audience likes it and it connects with the world the way we wanted it to.

In her interview to this paper, Anushka had mentioned that you wanted to play her character Aafia Bhinder. Do you still wish you had essayed that role?

What happens is that we go through a journey in life where different things appeal to us at different times. At present, I feel my character, Babita Kumari, is apt for me.

However, at some point in my life, I would love to play a character that requires me to do the kind of research and work with a team that Anushka did for Aafia. It was a wonderful experience for her. But Aanand sir was convinced that I should play Babita. In the end, I followed his conviction and vision. Initially, I didn’t see it as he saw it. Over a period of time, I understood the character and realized that it was a lot more complex. So, it was also a journey of discovery.

Was the role of Babita challenging enough?

Yes, it was. We would shoot one schedule, have a break for a few days and then come back to it. Sometimes, in the middle of the night-time shoot, I would tell Aanand sir that I didn’t feel like going to an unhappy dark place. My character may behave obnoxiously, but it all comes from a place where she is trying to persuade herself and others that she is not hurt or insecure. Likewise, there were occasions when I was feeling happy and I would ask Anand sir if we still had to go ahead with this sad character and he’d be like, ‘Yes’.

So, it was a challenging yet a learning experience. A lot of times, you feel a certain emotion, but that’s not what you show. And that’s what makes a character interesting. For instance, if you’re sad and heartbroken, you depict something else. That’s usually what we do in real life, too. If we’re feeling a little vulnerable, we start being defensive or aggressive. Human nature is complex and that’s what Aanand sir wanted to show. Also, he was clear that my character shouldn’t wallow in self-pity. She would rather have people hate her than sympathize with her.

Being an actress yourself, were there any similarities between you and Babita?

No, there were none whatsoever. In fact, it really would have made no difference if she was a doctor, lawyer or a politician. It was kind of irrelevant that she was playing an actress, in this particular context. It just happens to be an example. I think what Aanand sir was trying to say is that often, things are not what they seem. Even though you’re a successful superstar who is loved across the world, deep down, you might feel incomplete. It was that feeling of vulnerability that he wanted to depict.

How was it working with Shah Rukh Khan after Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)?

Shah Rukh played a huge role in me landing a part in Zero. He said, ‘I want Katrina to do this role’. He always wants you to push yourself. He encourages the women in his films to shine, which is great.

Anushka mentioned that both of you got along from the first day you shot together.
Whenever we meet, there’s a great vibe between all of us. We’re at ease with each other. Anushka and I bond on a lot of levels. Even if we don’t see each other or speak to each other quite often, there is a lot of comfort and trust between us.

Did you feel you weren’t given enough scope to perform in your last release, Thugs Of Hindostan?

It was my choice. I have a wonderful equation with Aditya (Chopra), Aamir (Khan), Victor sir (Vijay Krishna Acharya) and all of us worked together as a team. I knew exactly what I was doing in the film. I’m sure everyone wished it could have done better. It’s okay, you learn and keep trying.

You signed Bharat after Priyanka Chopra exited the film. Given your friendship with director Ali Abbas Zafar and Salman Khan, it’s strange you weren’t cast first.

Ali wanted to do the film with Priyanka. When she exited, he said he would like to go ahead with me. And I’ve no qualms about it. It’s not that I’m his best friend, so I should be there in every film that he makes. It’s his journey and vision as a director. I don’t mix that with our friendship. He sent me the script and told me that I should react to it after reading it. I fell in love with the character. I feel fortunate that it was offered to me and I’m enjoying playing the part.

You’ve been in the industry for 15 years now. How do you look back at your journey?

I believe there’s no point in looking back. I’m only interested in looking forward, what battles I’m fighting internally and what I want to achieve in future. The only thing that makes sense now is knowing where I’m trying to head from here. Maybe I needed to do it before, but everything was happening too fast. There is a time and rhythm in life, sometimes things progress so quickly that you can’t see anything. Then, there’s a time when you breathe easy and you find happiness in learning what life teaches you.

The last couple of years have also seen drastic changes in your personal life. Reportedly, you said in an interview that your break-up with Ranbir Kapoor was a blessing.

I didn’t say that. I would never comment directly on something personal in my life. I said I believe that everything that happens in life is a blessing. Also, nothing happens in isolation, everything is connected. Even if you don’t understand it now, you will do so later. I think I’m in a good place as long as I’ve an opportunity to learn, explore and be excited about life. So, I’m fortunate.

I m in a happy space: Anushka Sharma on Shah Rukh Khan, Zero and the year that 2018 was

Anushka Sharma on Shah Rukh Khan, Zero and the year that 2018 was

This month, Anushka Sharma completes 10 years in Bollywood. Coincidentally, the actress, who made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, marks the culmination of a decade in the movies with the superstar in Zero, which releases on December 21. Over the years, she has not only consolidated her position as an actress to reckon with but also forayed into production halfway through her journey so far. Her ventures like NH10, Phillauri, and Pari not only earned critical acclaim but also fared well at the box-office.

Post her wedding to Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, her movies like Pari and Sui Dhaaga: Made In India have broken the oft-quoted belief that marriage affects an actress’ career. Now, after impressing critics and audiences with her acting chops in the horror thriller and the romantic social drama, Anushka will be seen as a scientist suffering from cerebral palsy in the upcoming Aanand L Rai directorial.

We catch up with the star at Bandra’s Mehboob Studios for a chat. Excerpts...

This year, your films have not only been different, but your characters also have been dynamically unique and deglam..

Looks are dependent on roles. This year has been important, exciting and successful, performance-wise. Pari was appreciated, while in Sui Dhaaga, my character, Mamta, was liked by viewers. Zero also has an interesting role. Overall, 2018 has been challenging for me as a performer. As an actor, you’re trying to constantly create a different mould for yourself. In my case, I’m striving to break boundaries. I want to reinvent myself with every film. I want people to see and think that I’m doing something different than what I’ve done before. It’s important to stay relevant by doing that. I’ve always chased good roles and performances.

What were your first thoughts when Aanand L Rai offered you the role of Aafia Bhinder, a scientist with cerebral palsy, in Zero?

The film is larger than life and celebrates love as well as life beautifully. Writer Himanshu Sharma and Aanand sir share a good equation. They had a certain vision and I wanted to come on board and submit to it. My character is different, she has cerebral palsy. Himanshu and Anand sir had done a lot of research as they knew how they wanted their character to be portrayed on screen. I surrendered to their vision completely.

Please continue...

They had appointed an occupational therapist and an audiologist for me to learn about this condition. For me, as an actor, I understood the responsibility that it has to be explained and presented truthfully, the way it is. I spent three months to learn, research and understand how to go about this role. And that was crucial.

I met the therapist who works with kids battling cerebral palsy. The way the character was written, it wasn’t easy for us to find someone with this condition. As an actor, observing someone and then essaying the role wasn’t right. The therapist didn’t want me to observe and play the part. He wanted me to understand this condition and its restrictions. The character is brilliant and a highly-accomplished person. So, finding a person with this condition to observe and play the role accordingly was not possible. The therapist suggested that I should understand the motor skills, while the audiologist helped me with the speech.

Katrina Kaif said that she would have loved to do your role. Did you ever want to play her role — the supertsar Babita Kumari or you felt Aafia was a better part for you?

I was interested in this part since the time I heard the narration. Yes, Katrina would often tell Anand sir and me that she wanted to essay this role. It was extremely challenging for me to play Aafia. It’s interesting because you see the spirit of her character, which is so amazing. And, of course, it also inspired me to push the envelope as an actor.

This is your fourth film with Shah Rukh Khan. How different is it each time you work with him, from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Jab Harry Met Sejal and now Zero?

Having worked with him in four films, I’ve found an equation with Shah Rukh. This is my 10th year in the industry and I’m doing a film with him in the same month when my debut movie opposite him had released. So, it’s quite cool. I’m comfortable with him. He’s an interesting person to talk to, he’s passionate and driven. That’s an important quality one should have. When he comes to the set, you see that every shot is important to him. He doesn’t have an attitude like dekhenge, chala lenge. The passion and drive, even after all these years, is something to learn, for any actor.

This is your first film with Aanand. In an interview to this paper, he said that he found friends in you and Katrina.

He has made films that people have loved and warmed up to. This is a huge project for him, it’s his, Shah Rukh and Himanshu’s baby. The three of them have been a big part of making this film, and the passion they have put into it. I’m happy to go on this journey with them and follow their vision for my character in the movie. Aanand sir can make friends with anyone. He’s a happy person who is warm as well as strong.

How do you look at the year gone by?

I’m in a happy space. For me, the acting assignments as well as the production aspect has been quite exciting. My brother Karnesh and I are making films for Netflix and a series for Amazon. I’m happy that people are seeing value in our production house as content creators. We are also working with new writers and directors. When you’re not acting, you have to take out time to be involved in projects. That’s what I’ve been doing as a producer. As an actor, I’m in the midst of making a decision. This has been a hectic year with distinct films. It’s important for me to decide what I’m taking on next. Five years ago, it was a different situation. Now, I’m secure and can take time. If you continue working the way I have in the past three years, you burn out. That’s why you need to take time to understand what you want to do.

How do you unwind after a long hard day?

Either I’m working or spending time with my loved ones. Otherwise, there’s no time like people say, ‘Hum ghoomne chale gaye’. When I have a break, my husband is working. When he has a break, I’m working. So it’s not like normal people taking a holiday. Now, I’m trying to be with my parents.

So what’s next for you as an actor? Any kind of role or film on your wish list?

I don’t have a wish list of the kind of roles or films I want to do. The story has to be interesting to start with.

After your wedding last December, you seem to have set off a trend in B-Town... Sonam K Ahuja, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra have followed suit.
It’s a cool trend to start (smiles). Marriage is a beautiful institution. I believe in its sanctity. I tied the knot at the age of 29. Usually, actresses are expected to settle down later in life. I’ve never been conventional and I’ve never made conventional choices. I’ve never been like let me do something tried and tested... I started producing when I was 25. I chose to marry because I felt it was the right thing to do. It’s nice to see people who are in love and committing their lives to each other.

Issaqbaazi: Brace yourself for the 2nd song from Zero featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan together!

After treating the fans to glimpses of Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma starrer Zero throughout the year, in the form of teasers, trailer and a song, the makers of the Aanand L Rai film are all set to unveil the second song from the film. Titled Issaqbaazi, the song is probably the most awaited one from the movie. A short teaser of the song that features Salman Khan along with Shah Rukh was unveiled on the occasion of Eid earlier this year which had sent the fans into a frenzy of sorts.

Finally, the makers will be releasing the song tomorrow, i.e., on Tuesday giving the fans another treat before the release of the film. The makers shared a new poster featuring both Salman and Shah Rukh and announced that the song will be out on December 4. Katrina also shared the poster on her Instagram page. She wrote alongside, "Ishq karne wale toh both dekhe, ab #issaqbaazi karne wale bhi dekh lein. Song out tomorrow!"

Check it out right here:

The Zero trailer was unveiled on Shah Rukh Khan's birthday this year. The actor will be seen playing a midget Bauua Singh from Meerut in the film. While Anushka will be seen playing a scientist with cerebral palsy, Katrina will be in the role of an alcoholic actress.

Shah Rukh and Bauua Singh's Twitter banter has already become the talk of the town. This morning, Bauua Singh tweeted a shayari writing, "Arz kuya hai...Chheen layenge khud khuda se tumhe.. Chheen layenge khud khuda se tumhe... Ishq ki baazi haarne ki hamein aadat nahi"

SRK replied to it writing, "Kya baat hai @BauuaSingh, badi ishqiyaana shayari ho rahi hai? Mere sath reh kar asar ho raha hai lagta hai. Aakhir ishq karna kush kush seekh hi gaye tum mujhse."

Then,Bauua revealed that he's actually learnt it all from Salman. He tweeted, "Khan saab @iamsrk, jhooth nahi bolenge! Aap se ishq ke baare mein kaafi kuch seekha hai. Par ye ishq nahi @Issaqbaazi hai!! Ye humne @BeingSalmanKhan se seekhi hai!"

Directed by Aanand L Rai, Zero is all set to hit the theatres on December 21.
