News: Why Don't Leaders From Uttar Pradesh Participate In The Jodo Yatra?

news-why-dont-leaders-from-uttar-pradesh-participate-in-the-jodo-yatra

Taking on the saffron party Bharatiya Janata Party is not simple because it is in its strongest shape since its founding. Rahul Gandhi, a former head of the Congress, then launched the Bharat Jodo Yatra. He is soliciting assistance from the opposition parties as well as support from the general public in order for them to comprehend the harm the BJP is creating.

If the opposition parties can unite, the BJP will need to put in a lot of effort. It might either come out on the wrong side of the polls or win by a slim margin. If one of these occurs, it would be a significant victory for the opposition.

One of the biggest states in the nation, Uttar Pradesh might help make an impression at the Center because it is the home of temples. So, getting the state's support is crucial right now. Rahul Gandhi, though, is receiving back-to-back shocks from the state's leaders.

Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati, both former chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh, declined to participate in the yatra. Despite invitations, the two leaders of their respective parties chose not to participate in the yatra for a variety of reasons.

As if it weren't enough, another important leader skipped the yatra. Om Prakash Rajbhar, the president of the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party, will now decide whether to separate from Rahul Gandhi. He claimed that although he had been invited to the yatra, he was not yet prepared to participate.

The alleged cause of this is interpersonal conflicts among the leaders. Former Chief Ministers Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav may have felt that participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra was inappropriate given their positions. Om Prakash Rajbhar, a past ally of the BJP, is rumored to want to join the saffron party again.

Current News: Congress youth leaders to go for indefinite sit-in from tomorrow

They want Rahul to take back his resignation

There seems to be no end to the political uncertainty surrounding Congress following Rahul Gandhi's resignation as the party chief. Drama at AICC took a quick turn on Saturday when senior leaders like PL Puniya and Nana Patole also put in their papers. PL Puniya was General Secretary in charge Madhya Pradesh and Patole was looking after the agriculture cell of the Congress Party. Sources confirmed to WION/DNA that from 2nd of July, roughly 1000 to 2000 workers and junior AICC functionaries will go in for an indefinite sit in. The purpose of the sit-in is in to pressurize Rahul Gandhi to take back his resignation and make other senior leaders resign from their respective positions.

Virendra Vashisht, one of the AICC secretaries who put in their papers said,” Most of the young people have been promoted by Rahul Gandhi. If Rahul Gandhi does not continue as the President, then we would continue to the only function as normal workers of the party.” Sources also said that purpose is to build pressure within the organization to keep Rahul as the chief.

When WION asked the question to Congress spokesperson, Pawan Khera, he said,” It is a way to request Rahul Gandhi that he must continue as the president of the Congress. It is not about junior leaders, vs senior leaders. Throughout Saturday, a number of resignations also continue to pour in from various state units of the Congress Party. Sources also indicated that young leaders were directly in touch with non-political aides of Rahul Gandhi who seem to be providing oxygen to the idea of the sit-in.  Though Congress President in the last Congress Parliamentary Meeting had categorically said that he would not change his decision.

For Congress, the issue is that only Congress Working Committee can select a new president but can only be convened by the Congress President. Till now, Rahul Gandhi has not convened it and no other senior member constitutionally can convene the committee. Setting aside the legality, the party is currently struggling to give a coherent message without functional leadership.

Current News: Will die but wont insult Modis parents: Rahul Gandhi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that he would prefer to die than insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parents. Gandhi was addressing an election meeting in Ujjain in the context of Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacking his father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi for corruption and calling him ‘Bhrashtrachari No. 1'.

Gandhi said that he does not hate anyone. "But Narendra Modi Ji insults my father. He speaks about my grandmother and grandfather. I will never speak about Modi's family and parents. I will die but will never insult Modiji's parents because I am not an RSS man. I am a Congressman," said Rahul Gandhi. He addressed two more meetings in Neemuch and Khandwa districts, all in Malwa-Nimad region goes to polls on May 19 in the final phase.

Modi was in Madhya Pradesh to address an election meeting at Ratlam in the region. Gandhi said, "Modi ji does not talk about farmers' suicide, unemployment, and corruption but in his interviews, he tells how he eats mango, how he peels the mango and how did he cut the sleeves of his kurta to save space in his bag."

Ridiculing the Prime Minister's recent statement in an interview with a TV news channel that clouds helped Air Force's fighter planes avoid radars in Pakistan during Balakot air strike, the Congress president asked, "when there are storm and rain in India, do all the planes disappear from radar?"

Referring to the police firing on farmers in Mandsaur in 2017 which had left 5 farmers dead, Gandhi said the Prime Minister did not say anything when the police opened fire at farmers. He said that he had kept his promise to farmers and waived off their loans but wondered why Modiji was saying that the loans were not waived. "Even the loans of Niranjan Singh and Rohit Singh, belonging to former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan's family were waived."

Gandhi said no farmer would go to jail for non-payment of their loans after the Congress was voted to power. "There would be two budgets, including one for farmers." Regarding the Congress' promise on NYAY scheme to give Rs. 72,000 annually to 50 million poor families, he reiterated his charges on the PM with regard to Rafale deal.

He said once Congress was voted to power, money would be taken away from the pockets of Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Anil Ambani and would be given to the poor. State BJP vice-president Vijesh Lunawat said, " Rahul Gandhi fearing rout in 2019 elections and that is why targeting the PM Modi in his election speeches. He is trying to save his chair and position in the Congress."

If the notice was issued 2 days before Amethi form scrutiny, RO would’ve disallowed Rahul: Swamy on citizenship row

He also wrote: “One of these days I will prove that TDK’s Indian citizen was illegally given since she refused to answer the mandatory questions in her Application form.”

In a move that comes in the middle of the Lok Sabha polls, the Centre issued a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi seeking the "factual position" of his citizenship within a fortnight following a complaint by a BJP MP, setting off a political row.

The notice by the Union Home Ministry on Monday on the complaint from Subramanian Swamy alleging that Rahul Gandhi was a British national was dismissed as "rubbish" by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra while her party said the entire world knows the Congress chief is an Indian citizen by birth.

Swamy upon whose complaint the MHA issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to explain on Wednesday that if the MHA had issued the show cause notice two-days before Rahul Gandhi’s Amethi form scrutiny, the Returning Officer could’ve ‘disallowed’ him.

Using one of his oft-repeated sobriquets for the Congress president, Swamy wrote: “If the Home Minister show cause Notice to Buddha had been issued two days before Amethi  form scrutiny, the RO would have disallowed Buddhu to contest pending the inquiry.”

He also wrote: “One of these days I will prove that TDK’s Indian citizen was illegally given since she refused to answer the mandatory questions in her Application form.”

1. What the notice says

The notice letter, accessed by Zee Media, states that a company named Backups Limited was registered in the UK in the year 2003, with address 51 Southgate Street, Winchester, Hampshire and that Gandhi was one of the directors and secretary of the company.

According to the notice, the company's annual returns, filed in 2005 2006, states that Gandhi was born on 19/06/1980 and that his declared nationality was British. Indians aren't allowed to hold dual citizenships. Earlier, Swamy had claimed that Gandhi's declaration of being a British citizen was illegal since he was also an MP in India at that time.

The notice asks Rahul Gandhi to intimate the factual position in the matter to the Home Ministry within a fortnight of receiving the communication.  The later was dated April 29, 2019.

Swamy had earlier raised doubts about Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship.  He had claimed that the Congress president had been issued an extra passport by MEA in 1994 and that his ‘citizenship would be canceled’.

2. MHA notice to Rahul

The Home Ministry communication said Swamy's letter also mentioned that in the British company's annual returns filed on October 10, 2005, and October 31, 2006, Rahul Gandhi's date of birth has been given as June 19, 1970, and he had declared his nationality as British.
"Further, in the dissolution application dated February 17, 2009, of the above-referred company, your nationality has been mentioned as British.

"You are requested to intimate the factual position in the matter to this ministry within a fortnight of the receipt of this communication," the notice to Rahul Gandhi said.
In November 2015, the Supreme Court had dismissed a public interest litigation seeking a CBI investigation into the citizenship of Rahul Gandhi while noting that PIL pleas were not meant to target one individual or organization but were a medium to resolve human suffering through good governance.

A bench of the Chief Justice of India H L Dattu and justice Amitava Roy rubbished the plea questioning the source and authenticity of the documents attached to a petition.
Rajnath Singh told reporters in Lucknow that if any MP writes a letter to any ministry, then necessary proceedings are undertaken by the ministry. "It is not a big development, it is a normal process," he said.

Asked specifically if the timing of the letter raising the question on the citizenship of the country's main opposition leader was relevant as it comes in the election season, Singh replied, "No, no. This question was raised in Parliament also. A Member of Parliament (Dr. Subramanian Swamy) has written to the ministry several times as well, following which the action has been taken."

3. What Rahul said in 2016

In 2016, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had forwarded to the Parliamentary Ethics Committee, headed by veteran BJP leader L K Advani, Swamy's "complaint of ethical misconduct" against Rahul Gandhi that he had accessed documents in which the Congress leader had called himself "British".

In his reply to the ethics committee on the allegations of British citizenship, Rahul Gandhi had said he had never "sought or acquired British citizenship" and that his "identity is that of an Indian".
Rahul Gandhi also questioned the committee's decision to look into a "complaint that is not in order", claiming it was "an endeavor to malign" him.

The panel had issued a notice to him, seeking an explanation to whether he had once declared himself a British citizen on the legal papers of a company in the United Kingdom.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lost the plot. After four phases of elections, it is clear that Modi ji and the BJP are hurtling towards an imminent defeat at breakneck speed. Consequently, they seek to manufacture one malicious and fallacious agenda every day. These are rehashed allegations of the year 2014-15. I had rejected them then also," Surjewala told reporters in Delhi.

"Modi government should be renamed as a desperate government manufacturing one allegation per day, but your fake allegation will not replace the truth".

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections are underway of which four phases were completed on Monday.
Rahul Gandhi is seeking re-election from party bastion Amethi in Uttar Pradesh which goes to polls in the fifth phase of voting on May 6. He is also contesting from Wayanad in Kerala where polling has been completed.

An objection on the citizenship issue was also raised by an independent candidate against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi, but the returning officer after scrutiny declared his nomination papers as valid.

Political News: Rahul Sets New Record With Tirumala Trip

Rahul Gandhi decided to kickstart his day-long AP Tour with the visit to Tirumala by foot. He flew to the Renigunta Airport on Friday morning and drove to Alipiri. Upon offering prayers at Sri Lakshminarayana Swamy Temple, Congress Chief reached the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara Swamy on foot.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi is the first person from the Gandhi-clan to climb Tirumala by foot. What's even more special is the fact that his trek to the hill shrine was completed in record time. Mr.Gandhi was able to reach Tirumala in just One-and-a-half Hour.

Politics: Mass Resignations Of MPs On Last Day?

Opposition Parties in the country have been chalking out a strategy to irk the NDA Government ahead of the 2019 General Elections. They were seriously considering 'Mass Resignations of MPs' on the last day of the ongoing Parliament Session in protest against the refusal of the proposal to constitute Joint Parliamentary Committee on Rafale Deal, Denial of Special Category Status for AP and Witch-Hunting of Opposition Leaders in the country.

Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi and AP CM Chandrababu Naidu have been discussing about the proposal of Mass Resignations with party presidents of Opposition Parties. TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee and NCP Chief Sharad Pawar took part in the discussion.

NTR played an instrumental role in the Mass Resignations of 106 MPs in protest against the Bofors Scam. And now, 120 MPs belonging to 10 Political Parties could submit their resignations.

What will be the impact of tendering resignations on the final day of last Parliament Session? It can't be treated as a sacrifice but remains as a headline story!

Poll: Rahul Gandhis Mega Poll Promise

Congress National President Rahul Gandhi made a heavy promise to voters during a campaign stating that if the party is voted to power, then it will implement universal basic income for the poor.

Calling it the Minimum Income Guarantee, he said the dream of building a new India is possible by eliminating poverty. "We cannot build a new India while millions of our brothers & sisters suffer the scourge of poverty. If voted to power in 2019, the Congress is committed to a Minimum Income Guarantee for every poor person, to help eradicate poverty & hunger. This is our vision & our promise," he explained.

The Minimum Income Guarantee is a rip-off of the Universal Basic Income idea which is being considered globally as economies become unstable and people are going out of jobs, forced into abject poverty. The idea first made its way into India through Economic Survey of India in 2016-17 which was considered for Economically Weaker Sections.

According to the data, the Congress is considering Rs.6000-7000 per person per annum which could come up to 5% of India's GDP. While the promise definitely seems like a bright idea, its implementation and the process to roll it out still needs debate and discussion. We also need to understand its long-term benefits and whether it would really push the poor out of poverty, as intended!

No Substance in What Modi Speaks, All His Assurances Are False: Rahul Gandhi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi Friday said Indians have realized that there is no substance in what Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks, adding the latter is mum on the issues he spoke about before the 2014 elections.

Addressing a campaign rally here for the November 28 Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, Gandhi said Modi's speeches used to be about corruption, farmers and unemployment.

"Today, he doesn't say anything on these issues.

People of the country have realized that there is no substance in what Modi speaks. All his assurances are false," Gandhi said.

"Before 2014, Narendra Modi promised loan waiver, bonus and better price for farmers' produce; I want to ask him why were the assurances not fulfilled," he said.

When the Congress forms the next government in Madhya Pradesh, the chief minister will work for 18 hours a day to provide employment to youth, Gandhi said.

"Unemployment and farm crisis are rampant in all the poll-bound states," he said, adding the government has told Parliament that only 450 youth get jobs per day in India, as against 50,000 in China in the same period.

Gandhi promised loan waiver to farmers "within 10 days of coming to power" in Madhya Pradesh and making the state an "agriculture hub" of the country.

The Congress leader said the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in the state destroyed the education sector with Vyapam, the entrance examination, admission, and recruitment scam unearthed in Madhya Pradesh in 2013.

On the Rafale deal, Gandhi said Modi gave Rs 30,000 crore benefit to industrialist Anil Ambani by taking away the contract from the state-owned aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

"Even BJP leaders Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie have said due processes were not followed in the Rafale deal.

The CBI director was about to start a probe into the Rafale scam but he was removed from his post at 2 am," Gandhi said.

"If a probe is carried out, only two names, that of Modi and Anil Ambani, would figure in it," he said.

Gandhi said,"Modi speaks of surgical strikes. The fighter aircraft used in the strikes were manufactured at HAL, while Ambani doesn't have any experience of making aircraft".

"Ambani has a debt of Rs 45,000 crore and is yet to repay the money given to him by public sector banks, he said.

"It Takes a Thief to Know a Thief": Rahul Attacks Modi for Saying Demonetization Led to Crackdown on Shell Firms

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he claimed that demonetization led to a crackdown on shell firms.

Addressing a rally in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "I am shocked that a few Congress leaders, who are out on bail question us what have we done for welfare of people! They question steps like demonetization, which led to a crackdown on several shell firms."

"They want an account of demonetization. It was due to the demonetization that fake companies were identified. And because of that you had to seek bail. Why do you forget that it was due to the note ban that you had to seek bail," he said without naming the Gandhis. Modi announced the ban on high-value currency notes on November 8, 2016.

Modi's remarks were an apparent reference to the bail granted by a Delhi court to Rahul and Sonia in December 2015 in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the National Herald case.

However, reacting to Modi's remarks, Rahul Gandhi lashed out at Modi and said that it takes a thief to know a thief.

"The PM’s latest Demonetisation barf is, 'Shell Firms'," said Rahul in a tweet.

Adding that ironically, Gandhi said, "The only “Shell” firms identified after the great Demonetisation tragedy are — Jay Shah's, Temple Enterprises — Piyush Goyal's Flashnet — Anil Ambani's Reliance Airports. It takes a thief to know a thief."

The Congress party has alleged that demonetization was a 'scam' to convert black money to white and asked the BJP to declare who is responsible for the 'economic loss' caused by the Modi government's move.

Congress' chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called the demonetization "disaster" an economic revolution and had given tackling black money, counterfeit currency, terrorism and Naxalism as reasons for the move.

However, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had staunchly defended the demonetization drive, saying 'prophets of doom' have been proven wrong as hard data of two years shows an increase in tax base, greater formalisation of the economy and India retaining the fastest growing economy tag for the fifth year in a row.

Rahul Gandhi's Shocker To TPCC Leaders

Is Congress chief Rahul Gandhi showing the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee leaders their place? Is he asserting himself by raising key questions about the list of the candidates that the TPCC has prepared? Is he indirectly telling that they can no longer play coterie politics?

On Friday, the Congress leaders led by TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and the AICC screening committee members went to Delhi with a list of about 40 persons. After glancing through the list, Rahul Gandhi asked them: "Where are the names of student leaders from Osmania University?" The Congress leaders were non-plussed. He then immediately ordered that the list is stopped forthwith so that the students' names would be included.

The Congress leaders from Telangana have shared the seats among themselves and their followers and family members. With Rahul Gandhi's intervention, their plan to gobble up seats has come to a naught. Rahul feels that OU is very critical to the Congress success as the OU Students have successfully prevented KCR from addressing a meet in the university. They have staunchly opposed KCR and his policies. So, roping in OU students is very important, feels Rahul.
