Talking about the comedy click, a source told the tabloid, "The filmmaker had narrated three scripts to Ajay. Since he has done a spate of great movies including biopics, actioners, and historical dramas, the actor was trying to find a light-hearted comedy. Ajay zeroed in on this script as he liked the larger point the story tried to form while eliciting laughs."

The source further said, "The film is along the lines of the Munna Bhai series because it revolves around two bumbling do-gooders with hearts of gold, who are bent reform society. it's been Indra Kumar's passion project; he had been scripting it for years. he's thrilled that the story will finally be translated on screen."

The team has already shot in Hyderabad, Gujarat, and Pune. In the next shooting schedule, the team will head to Ahmedabad and Pune where it will go on for the next couple of months.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday condoled the death of Ajay Devgn's father and Bollywood's renowned stunt director Veeru Devgan, terming it as a "great loss to the industry".

Ajay Devgn shared the letter written by the Prime Minister to his mother Veena Devgan on Twitter.

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the demise of Shri Veeru Devgan who was widely respected for his outstanding work across various domains in the Hindi film industry. This is a great loss for the industry," read the letter.

Hailing Devgan's work as a stuntman, action choreographer, director, producer and more, PM Modi wrote, "This is the sign of a man who completely dedicated himself to his chosen field and hence, kept discovering new ways of contributing to it."

The Prime Minister wrote at length about Devgan's work as a stuntman "in an era of no visual effects".

"There is something deeply moving about people like Shri Devgan who took great personal risks to enthral audiences in an era of no 'visual effects', knowing well that the glory of taking those risks would not be credited to them. It is said that great things can be achieved if we do not care who gets the credit but concentrate on doing the best we can," PM wrote in the moving letter.

Praising his dedication towards the film industry, the PM added, "He was known for his personal daredevilry, for pushing the limits as an action choreographer as well as for being meticulous about the safety of his team. Shri Devgn lived this ideal and his contributions to the film industry will be remembered forever. "

Referring to him as an inspiration, the statement concluded, "May he continue to inspire risk-takers in the world because it is those who take risks that define the direction our world takes. Om Shanti to the departed soul."

Ajay Devgn was "touched" by PM Modi's gesture, in response he wrote, "My Mother & entire Devgan family are deeply touched & humbled in silence by this thoughtful gesture from our Honourable Prime Minister @narendramodi. Thank you, Sir."

Apart from Prime Minister Modi, several other B-Town stars earlier condoled the action choreographer's death, Anupam Kher, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Ranvir Shorey, Aftab Shivdasani, Abbas-Mustan to name a few.

Devgan was suffering from breathing problems after which he was immediately admitted to Surya Hospital in Santa Cruz. However, his condition turned critical and he suffered a cardiac arrest leading to his death on May 27.

Devgan choreographed action scenes in more than 80 films including 'Hindustan Ki Kasam', where his son Ajay played the lead alongside Amitabh Bachchan. He was also the producer of the film.

He has also acted in a couple of films such as 'Sar Utha Ke Jiyo', 'Kranti', 'Mr. Natwarlal', and 'Muqabla'.

Ajay Devgn says that his and Akshay Kumar’s Punjabi genes are what allowed them to keep making movies one after another when they were younger.

Actor Ajay Devgn, who is looking forward to the release of De De Pyaar De, appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show recently to promote his film. While there, Ajay shared several stories from his movie career and funny anecdotes about his co-stars.

According to a report in The Times of India, he was asked about how he could do so many movies in a year while his contemporaries, the Khans manage only a couple of movies. Ajay said that not just him, but also Akshay Kumar used to shoot for 10 films every year and the credit for it goes to their Punjabi genes. The actor said they are used to eating a lot of desi food with pure ghee from childhood, which made them extremely efficient. He also added that he used to wear only one jeans to reduce shoot time and change only the shirt as per the theme and sequences of the film.

In the last two years, Ajay has been a part of seven films while Akshay has made seven films as well. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan made two films in two years, Shah Rukh Khan made three films and Salman Khan made four.

On the show, Ajay also revealed how Ram Gopal Varma’s 2003 movie Bhoot made him claustrophobic after a horrifying incident. He said that the team was shooting on the 28th floor of a building and once he was taking the elevator to the sets when an accident happened. “It crashed from the fourth floor to the basement and I was stuck in it for an hour-and-a-half. After that, I only took the stairs to reach the location even though it was on the 28th floor,” he said. The hours spent inside the broken elevator scared him so much that he refused to use the elevator again for the rest of the shoot. He would often climb 28 floors four times every day just to avoid taking the elevator. He said he now only uses elevators with glass walls.

Ajay and De De Pyaar De actors Tabu and Rakul Preet Singh also recently shot for Zee TV’s show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs where people shared his “tales of pranks”. He said he has stopped playing pranks on people.

Ajay said: “Now that people know me and expect something out of me on set, I have literally stopped playing pranks. In fact, the funniest thing is that there are no pranks and still the cast and crew keep suspecting me if something goes wrong on the set.”

Adding to this, composer Amaal Mallik said: “Once on the set of Golmaal, I delayed in giving a song and Ajay light-heartedly asked me to sit in a car that was supposed to fall from the cliff without any harness. I started palpitating.”

Ajay Devgn turned 50 on April 2.

He celebrated his birthday with the trailer launch of his film De De Pyaar De, also starring Tabu and Rakul Preet.


At the trailer launch, Ajay felt female actors enjoy a longer shelf life now.

Ajay, who is sharing screen space with his '90s co-star Tabu in De De Pyaar De, said the change has come in the past decade.

"Today things are different than what they were ten years ago, in terms of shelf life of female actors. Now they have more shelf life or as much shelf life as male actors. There is no difference today, but earlier there was," Ajay told the media.

"We have Tabu and Kajol and others working still," Ajay added.

Ajay cut his birthday cake at the event and said age is just a number.


"Ageing is about how you feel and not about the number," the actor said. "All my contemporaries are so fit. I think staying fit must be a conscious decision because the intention was that what you could do 25 years ago... you could still do it. I am happy that I can do exactly that."



Ajay refrained from commenting on the #MeToo allegations against his De De Pyaar De co-actor Alok Nath, who writer Vinta Nanda had accused of rape last year.

When Producer Luv Ranjan was asked to comment on the same, Ajay intervened saying, "This is not the right place to talk about it."

"And jinki aap baat kar rahe hai woh film uske pehle complete hui (the film was completed before the allegations surfaced against the concerned person).

De De Pyaar De releases on May 17.
